A northwest flow aloft allowed for a weak shortwave trough to drop southeast into the Ark-La-Tex during the afternoon hours of July 27th, where a weak cold front pulled up stationary from just north of the DFW Metroplex to along the Arkansas/Louisiana state line. Strong heating ahead of the front allowed for afternoon temperatures to climb into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees across East Texas and North Louisiana along and just ahead of the front, resulting in moderate instability to develop across these areas. This allowed for the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with a couple of these storms briefly becoming severe over Northern Caddo and Bossier Parishes. Damaging winds blew down several trees and damaged a wooden fence near Blanchard and Lake Bodcau. These storms diminished during the evening with the loss of heating.
