.UPDATE...
Convection is starting to bubble up as we cross midday. The sea
breezes have developed and will serve as focal points for
convection through the afternoon and evening. The atmospheric
profile is summerlike with little steering flow to influence
storm movement. Forecast appears to be on track with no updates
anticipated through the afternoon forecast issuance. Have a great
Wednesday!

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 802 AM EDT Wed Jun 27 2018/

AVIATION...
VFR expected through much of the period with the potential for
showers and thunderstorms developing later in the day. The focus
for convection will be driven by sea breeze development. As the
sea breezes push inland, boundary collisions will help increase
coverage. Some terminals could see sub-VFR conditions if impacted
by convection with short-fused amendments for brief bouts of
IFR/LIFR possible. Convection should diminish after sunset with
light flow through the rest of the period.

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 327 AM EDT Wed Jun 27 2018/

DISCUSSION...
Short term (Today through Thursday night): Weak high pressure will
prevail, leading to very weak winds in the low and mid levels of the
troposphere. The same typical summertime pattern of sea-breeze
driven convection will therefore prevail, with a chance of showers
and storms each day, especially over the interior. Mainly typical
pulse thunderstorms are expected.

Long term (Friday-Tuesday): By Friday or early in the weekend, winds
will become generally southeast again, and the southeast winds
should then prevail through the weekend into early next week. It is
likely that the Saharan Air Layer will have some effect on our
weather Friday into the weekend. However, there is uncertainty as to
how dense the SAL air will be over South Florida, and which day its
influence will be greatest. The GFS and ECMWF are currently
suggesting that Saturday and Sunday could be the days with the most
SAL over South FL. Despite the SAL, there will be moisture in the
region as well. Southeast wind typically brings moist flow into
South FL. The good news for east coast beach goers is that PoPs
should be held to around 40 percent or lower this weekend, with
higher chances of storms over the interior during the afternoons.

Early next week, GFS and ECMWF indicate an upper-level trough just
off to our east. Despite the possibility of the influence of
troughiness in the upper-levels, the GFS and ECMWF only show 1
degree of cooling at 500 mb from -7C the next few days to -8C at
that time. So it may not have much of an influence on chances for
strong thunderstorms.

MARINE...
Light, generally southeast winds around 5 kt, will prevail
today. Light and variable winds are expected on Thursday, with seas
less than 2 feet. A more persistent period of ESE-SE winds around 5-
10 kt will prevail late Friday through the weekend and into early
next week, with seas around 2 feet. Locally higher seas and gusty
winds are possible with any gusty showers or thunderstorms that may
occur.
