Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 944 AM EDT Wed Aug 15 2018 .UPDATE... No major changes to the forecast package. Extensive mid and upper level cloud coverage across the area this morning, which may delay initiation slightly across western zones. 12z sounding from JAX fairly similar to yesterday showing some CIN to overcome but scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop again today and with southwest flow most storms will move eastward through the afternoon and evening and increase in coverage. Weak surface trough remains across central Georgia, and will enhance coverage of storms across the Altamaha River valley today. Heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and a few stronger storms with gusty winds are possible. && .AVIATION... Some lingering IFR clouds and ceilings across inland southeast Georgia - otherwise VFR conditions will prevail outside of convection. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop near the I-75 corridor later this morning and push eastward through the afternoon and evening. Winds will generally be southwest but weaker today and less than 10 knots so the Atlantic seabreeze should be able to move inland again today to near the I-95 corridor. Storms may linger across southeast Georgia later into the evening, and VFR conditions are expected overnight outside of just some patchy MVFR morning fog again Thursday. && .MARINE... A weak frontal boundary remains to the north, and Atlantic high pressure will slowly lift northward across the northeast Florida waters. Prevailing south southwesterly winds may approach caution levels at times and will weaken by midweek, allowing for stronger sea breezes to develop each afternoon near the coast.
