An upper level ridge over Southern California plus light winds resulted in dense fog in San Diego County in the early morning hours of September 8th and 9th. Northern San Diego County experienced dense fog on the 8th, while southern San Diego County had fog on the 9th. Both mornings, the most dense fog occurred between 5 AM and 7 AM PST. Fog was particularly dense near Miramar Airport, Carlsbad Airport, Montgomery Field and Brown Field.

Visibility of 1/4 SM or less was observed in the valley areas of San Diego County at NKX, SDM, and MYF on the morning of September 9th. This dense fog was observed from 2 AM to 7 AM PST at those ASOS sites, and began clearing after sunrise.
