The Jawbone Canyon RAWS reported a peak wind gust of 59 mph.
A dry upper trough moved across the area during the evening of August 27 which brought a period of gusty winds across the west side of the San Joaquin Valley as well as to the Kern County Mountains and Deserts. Several low impact indicator sites measured peak gusts above 45 mph for a few hours.
Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

A dry upper trough moved across the area during the evening of August 27 which brought a period of gusty winds across the west side of the San Joaquin Valley as well as to the Kern County Mountains and Deserts. Several low impact indicator sites measured peak gusts above 45 mph for a few hours. This system also brought much cooler temperatures to the area. Afternoon highs on the 28th were the coolest observed across much of the area since mid June.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA 403 PM PDT Mon Aug 27 2018 .UPDATE...Updated air quality issues section. && .SYNOPSIS... Dry weather, with near normal low temperatures and slightly below normal high temperatures, can be expected throughout the Central California interior over the next several days. && DISCUSSION... An upper-level trough of low pressure will dig southward through Wyoming and into Northeast Utah tonight. As this upper-level trough of low pressure deepens, breezy conditions are expected in the southeastern portion of Kern County this evening, while windy conditions will prevail in the Kern County mountains this evening. The upper-level trough of low pressure will quickly pass eastward through the north central United States Tuesday. Weak cyclonic flow aloft will prevail along the northwest coast of the United States Tuesday night through Friday night. As a result, high temperatures Wednesday through Friday will remain slightly below normal for this time of year. A sharp mid to upper-level trough of low pressure over the Pacific Ocean should approach California Saturday. This trough of low pressure may deepen enough as it passes eastward into Nevada Saturday night or Sunday for surface cyclogenesis. This scenario is debatable at this time. The forecast for the upcoming weekend may be cooler than currently advertised if the mid to upper-level trough of low pressure is as strong as some of the long range computer model guidance suggests. Feeble cyclonic aloft is expected Sunday night and Monday. && .AVIATION... Areas of MVFR due to smoke and haze. Additionally, local wind gusts of around 35 knots will occur through and just below the mountain passes in Kern County until 06z Tuesday. Otherwise, generally VFR conditions can be expected throughout the central California interior during the next 24 hours. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES... None. && .CERTAINTY... The level of certainty for days 1 and 2 is high. The level of certainty for days 3 through 7 is medium. Certainty levels include low...medium...and high.
