Numerous showers and thunderstorms will move across the area this
afternoon. The main thunderstorm threats will be from cloud to ground
lightning, locally heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. However, isolated
strong to severe thunderstorms producing brief damaging winds and
localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northeast Georgia, piedmont
North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected across the Piedmont
this afternoon. A few storms could become severe, with damaging
winds being the primary threat. Cloud to ground lightning and locally
heavy rainfall can occur with any thunderstorm. In addition,
localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out, especially in urban
areas along the I-77 corridor.

COUNTY UNTIL 130 PM EDT...

At 101 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm with
intense lightning near Clarkesville, moving east at 25 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Clarkesville, Demorest, Tallulah Falls, Tallulah Gorge State Park,
Hollywood and Turnerville.

In addition to intense lightning, wind gusts up to 40 mph will be
possible in these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. Seek
higher ground if threatened by flood waters.

Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If outdoors, try to
get indoors or into a hard topped vehicle. Otherwise, stay away from
open areas and isolated high objects such as trees. When indoors,
stay away from windows and doors and avoid using wired electronic
devices. Do not take a shower or bath. Try to unplug unnecessary
appliances before the storm approaches.

Walhalla to 6 miles east of Toccoa, and moving east at 40 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Clemson, Seneca, Walhalla, Central, Westminster, Six Mile, Salem,
Lake Keowee, Jocassee Gorges and Lake Jocassee.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph will be possible in these areas.

Broadway Lake and Sadlers Creek State Park.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph and pea size hail will be possible in these

moving east at 25 mph.

Columbus, Landrum, Slater-Marietta, Tryon, Saluda, Tigerville,
Pleasant Ridge State Park, Lake Robinson, Jones Gap State Park and
North Saluda Reservoir.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph and pea size hail will be possible in these
areas.

At 156 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm with
intense lightning 14 miles southeast of Elberton, or near Lake Strom
Thurmond, moving east at 20 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Calhoun Falls, Lake Strom Thurmond, Bobby Brown State Park, Lake
Russell and Rice Town.

In addition to intense lightning, wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea
size hail will be possible in these areas.

Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
