.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 406 AM EDT Fri Mar 17 2017

An approaching cold front will bring a mix of snow, sleet, and
freezing rain across our area early today. However, temperatures
should rise above freezing by late morning, diminishing any travel
hazards by noon. High pressure will move into the area Sunday
resulting in dry weather with near normal temperatures. Rain is
likely Monday as another cold front moves through.

.UPDATE...
Issued at 840 AM EDT Fri Mar 17 2017

Forecast generally on track with no immediate changes to
headlines. Band of increased reflectivities moving across the
forecast area with a potpourri of precip types as snow, sleet and
freezing rain fight each other. This has lead to slick spots in
some areas and a quick dusting to half inch or so of
snow/sleet/freezing rain accumulations. Picked up a quick 6
tenths in about 20 minutes here at the office with huge snow
flakes. May need to adjust pops in the wake of this main band of
forcing as overall returns have been somewhat limited. Advisory
expiration of 11 am EDT appear to be fine for the moment. Still
concerned impacts could last beyond 15Z in far NE sections but
will monitor trends for now.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 403 AM EDT Fri Mar 17 2017

Favorable upper level support including the left exit region of
an upper level jet will move across the forecast area this
morning. Aircraft soundings indicated a shallow cold layer just
above the surface. Overnight temperatures had dropped to near 20
degrees at several locations northeast of a line from Lima to
Laporte. Although temperatures were starting to recover at 3 AM
EDT as clouds were moving in, a brief period of freezing rain and
snow is possible this morning before temperatures warm above
freezing. Given cold pavement temperatures around or just below
freezing, roads may become very slippery in less than an hour
after the precipitation starts, so will continue the winter
weather advisory for areas mainly north of highway 30. Have
adjusted the ending of the 2nd segment of the advisory back to 11
AM given pavement temperatures forecast to climb above freezing
before noon. Otherwise, little if any precipitation is expected
tonight as a weak cold front moves across the area.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 403 AM EDT Fri Mar 17 2017

Any light lingering precipitation should end by Saturday evening as
a surface high pressure ridge moves into the area. Return flow will
set up rapidly late Sunday ahead of the next system that will bring
mainly rain to the area Monday.  No snow accumulation is expected
Monday. Otherwise, dry and seasonably cool weather is expected
Tuesday and Wednesday with highs mainly in the 40s as a large
Canadian high pressure area builds into the area.

Ewd expansion of warm advection precip continues this morning with
pockets of snow/sleet denoted in dual-pol radar data. However strong
warm nose through IL resulting in quick change over to rain with
even thunder noted on nose of upper jet streak through wrn IL. Very
brief icing potential early with near freezing sfc temps. Otherwise
continued rapid deterioration in flight conditions expected near
term as top down saturation ensues. Fropa and post frontal drying
will overspread the terminals this evening with improving met
conditions.
