Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 306 PM PDT Mon Sep 4 2017 .SYNOPSIS...Near record high temperatures to continue through Wednesday then cooler temperatures beginning on Thursday. A few afternoon thunderstorms across central Nevada through Tuesday. Thunderstorm coverage will increase on Wednesday and spread across all of northern and central Nevada on Thursday. && .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Wednesday. Near record high temperatures will continue through Wednesday with highs continuing in the 90s to 103. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms will continue across central NV through Tuesday. Thunderstorm coverage will increase and begin to spread to the northeast on Wednesday as low pressure system off the coast moves onshore. The only areas that will be thunderstorm free will be northeast White Pine county and most of Elko county. .LONG TERM...Wednesday night through next Monday. Mid-level moisture will continue to gradually spread in from the west and south through the middle of the week as trough energy approaches from the west to eject the current ridge off to the east. The result of which will be increased clouds and thunderstorm activity. There still exist some model uncertainty with the timing of the ridge breakdown and the passage of the west coast trough in the mid to latter part of the week. Guidance still suggests that the best chances of TS will be through Friday time- frame, with drier and more stable conditions on Saturday. Next Sunday another round of moist and unstable air is progged to push up into central NV as ridging builds back in from the southwest. && .AVIATION...Isolated thunderstorms still expected at or near all terminals this afternoon and evening. With only a slight chance of VCTS this afternoon and evening, expect VFR conditions at all terminals. && .FIRE WEATHER...Isolated mostly dry thunderstorms will continue across central Nevada through Tuesday during the afternoon and evening hours. Thunderstorm coverage will increase and spread to the northeast on Wednesday with only northeast White Pine county and most of Elko county remaining thunderstorm free. Near record high temperatures will continue through Wednesday. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms across all of northern and central Nevada on Thursday. A cooling trend will also begin on Thursday.
