.SYNOPSIS...A heatwave will continue to build over the region
through the weekend, likely peaking on Tuesday, but remaining
elevated through the week. Temperatures will likely top out at or
near records at the peak, with an extended stretch with highs
exceeding 110 in the deserts and valleys, with little relief at
night with lows in the 80s and 90s.

.DISCUSSION...
Hot and dry conditions will remain through the next week. The
Excessive Heat Warning in effect for most lower elevation areas
from Saturday through Thursday. The hottest days will be Monday
through Wednesday. Temperatures will flirt with records during
this period. The official all-time record high temperature for
Las Vegas is 117 degrees. High of Tuesday and Wednesday will
approach this value. The latest guidance indicates the excessive
heat may extend beyond Thursday. There is a sight chance of a
thunderstorm or two in the eastern Sierra Sunday and Monday as a
weak upper disturbance move across the area. Otherwise, high
pressure will remain in place, keeping the area dry.

.AVIATION...For McCarran...No operationally significant weather
expected through the period. With high pressure overhead, winds will
follow typical diurnal trends with winds around 8 kts favoring an
easterly direction during the day, and southwest drainage winds at
night. Temperatures are expected to climb this weekend, with high t
temperatures by the beginning of next week possibly reaching 115F or
higher, and could impact air travel.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...No operationally significant weather expected through
the period with light winds following typical diurnal trends.
.FIRE WEATHER...Extremely Hot and Dry through next week. RH
values will be very low, but wind will also be light. There may be
a few breezy areas on Sunday, but winds are not expected to meet
or exceed red flag criteria.

.HYDROLOGY...
An extended period of hot temperatures will encompass
the eastern Sierra slopes of Inyo County through the end of next
week. The hot temperatures will speed snowmelt at elevations above
11000 feet. Creeks along the southern Sierra Nevada from Rock Creek
to Cottonwood Creek have started to respond with flows on the rise
since Thursday. Creek, streams and rivers will continue to run high
and fast through all of next week.

.CLIMATE...
Near record high temperatures will be possible each day Saturday
through Thursday. The current record of consecutive days above 110
degrees in Las Vegas is 10 days (1961), and for 115 degrees, 4
days (2005).
