.SYNOPSIS...Hot temperatures will continue increasing through the
weekend and into next week. Approaching record high temperatures
are possible Monday through Wednesday, with the hottest day
expected Tuesday. Mostly dry and clear skies with isolated chances
of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons Sat-Tue along the
Sierra crest. &&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Thursday
As high pressure camps out over the southwest, extremely hot temperatures
are expected to ramp up this weekend lasting through the middle
of next week. Models have been consistently trending warmer over
the last few model runs. Notably, the latest euro MOS guidance has
LAS at 117 on Tuesday, which is the current record holder. As
overall model guidance has continued to increase temperatures,
confidence has also increased enough to slightly up temperatures
across the region through the forecast period. All medium range
models are indicating that Tuesday will likely be the hottest day.
An Excessive Heat Warning still remains in effect from Saturday
through Wednesday as we approach record high temperatures.
Besides widespread heat impacts, dry conditions are expected across
most of the region with the exception along the eastern Sierra.
Slight chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible
along the Sierra during the afternoon periods everyday starting
Saturday continuing through Tuesday, with best chances occuring on
Sunday. Winds will generally be diurnal with some breezy
afternoon winds typically below 15 mph. Slightly more breezy
westerly winds Wednesday and Thursday afternoons with gusts up to
20 mph.

.AVIATION...For McCarran...Other than some gusts out of the
southwest to around 15kts through late evening, no operationally
significant weather expected through the period. With high pressure
overhead, winds will follow typical diurnal trends with winds around
8 kts favoring an easterly direction during the day, and southwest
drainage winds at night.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...No operationally significant weather expected through
the period with light winds following typical diurnal trends.

.FIRE WEATHER...Very hot and dry conditions can be expected
through the forecast period. Relative humidities will be in the
single digits, though winds will generally be light and terrain
driven remaining below any fire weather thresholds through most of
next week. Slight chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms
along the Sierra crest are possible everyday starting Saturday
continuing through Tuesday, with best chances occuring on Sunday.

.HYDROLOGY...The cooler temperatures earlier this week slowed runoff
into the eastern Sierra creeks and streams. Much of the snowpack
below about 10500 ft has melted off. However, with the very hot
temperatures expected this weekend into early next week, an increase
in flows is expected as high elevation snowmelt increases again.
