Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 344 AM MDT Sun May 7 2017 .SHORT TERM...Today through Monday...Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue early this morning across south-central Idaho east of Mountain Home. The area resides near the periphery of an upper low centered in southern Calif and an upper trough near the ID panhandle. The split system will slowly shift east through tonight resulting in a drying trend as an upper ridge nudges in from Oregon. Until then, isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue in SW Idaho east of a McCall to Mountain Home line. The ridge will also bring a warming trend through Monday with highs returning to near normal. Breezy northwest winds will continue through this afternoon and subside this evening. Winds will be light on Monday. .LONG TERM...Monday night through Sunday...Upper level ridging begins to develop on Tuesday, strengthening through Thursday. This will bring dry conditions and a warming trend. Temperatures by Thursday rise to around 15 degrees above normal, or mid 80s in the Snake Plain. A trough off the Pacific NW coast will approach the region by late Thursday, with a chance of thunderstorms ahead of the cold front. The cold front moves inland on Friday morning, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. The trough will stall out across the Pacific NW with cool air and limited moisture through Sunday. Expect below normal temperatures and a chance of precipitation Saturday and Sunday, depending on where the center of the trough moves. && .AVIATION...Generally VFR. Areas of MVFR ceilings and mountain obscuration through 18z/Sun. Scattered showers east of a line from KMYL-KBOI, tapering off after 18z/Sun. Winds aloft at 10kft MSL: variable 5-15kt. The Boise River near Anderson reached minor food stage due to snow melt. A number of county and Forest Service roads were damaged.
The Middle fork of the Boise River near Atlanta reached minor food stage due to snow melt. A number of county and Forest Service roads were damaged.
Rapid snowmelt in the high elevations of the Big Wood Basin sent high flows over the spillway of Magic Reservoir causing flooding downstream in Gooding County. Agricultural land and low lying roads were impacted by the high water around the town of Gooding.
