Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 234 PM MDT Sun Jun 11 2017 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday...Upper level low pressure system remains on track to move over northwest Nevada this evening. Showers have developed ahead of the low center across southeast Oregon along with a band of showers between Mountain Home and Boise. Expect showers coverage to increase this afternoon and evening as the low center moves eastward across northwest Nevada. Clouds have and will likely limit instability this afternoon and evening. However, dynamic support from a strong upper level jet over northeast Nevada/south- central and eastern Idaho may be able to overcome the weak instability for isolated thunderstorms mainly southeast of a Rome- Mountain Home- Stanley line. The stronger storms could produce heavy rain and gusty winds. More rain is expected this later evening as an another band of precipitation shifts northwest across much of the forecast area. The low center will track east across northern Nevada on Monday lifting northeast into Eastern Idaho Monday night. The heaviest rain will fall across southeast Oregon Monday morning shifting east into Southwest Idaho Monday afternoon lasting through Tuesday morning. Expect a significant amount of rain between now and Tuesday morning across the forecast area which will likely exacerbate ongoing flooding issues. Rivers will be closely monitor. The upper level moves out of the region Tuesday for dry but relatively cool conditions under zonal flow. .LONG TERM...Monday night through Saturday...The upper level low will continue to move into the Northern Plains Tuesday evening, with precipitation being found well east of the forecast area. A dry zonal flow will be found across the forecast area, with diminishing wind and mild temperatures. A weak disturbance may move through the northern third of the area late Tuesday night, but its presence continues to be further washed out in model runs, resulting in minimal impacts. Models attempt to amplify the ridge for Wednesday afternoon, through nearby low pressure systems will stifle its growth. The approach of an area of low pressure by Friday will result in a dirty ridge across the area, with showers noted across the northern third of the forecast area, from Baker county in Oregon southeast to the Boise Mountains. Unsettled conditions to remain over that area through Friday night, with drying noted by Saturday afternoon. Slightly warmer conditions expected through the end of the week, with a return to seasonal temperatures. && .AVIATION...MVFR for many terminals. The approaching low pressure system will continue to bring showers with isolated thunderstorms across the area. Periods of shower activity will continue through Tuesday morning. Surface winds: North-northwest increasing to 15-25 kts this evening. Gusts of 25-30kt across portions of the Treasure Valley, with the strongest gusts impacting KBKE and KMUO.
