Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 328 PM EDT Wed Jul 5 2017 .SHORT TERM (Tonight-Thursday)... Weak mid/upper level ridging will continue while surface high pressure well out in the Atlantic Ocean continues to ridge westward with the axis across the northern portions of the forecast area with an east to southeast flow persisting. A pocket of drier air in the mid/upper levels over the central parts of the region early this afternoon will move west with a larger pocket of relatively dry, precipitable water less than 1.5 inches, overspreading the much of the area later tonight through Thursday morning before some deeper moisture returns during the afternoon and evening. Thus for the rest of today we'll continue to see isolated to scattered convection develop on the sea breezes/outflow boundaries and move west northwest and eventually out into the gulf later this evening. Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies will then prevail overnight into Thursday morning before the moisture begins to move in from the southeast in the afternoon. Plenty of sunshine is expected during the morning hours like today then more isolated to scattered convection will develop as the moisture returns with the highest PoPs across southwest Florida where the moisture will be deepest and lowest PoPs across much of the Nature Coast where the drier air will hold on longest. Seasonable temperatures will continue with lows in the 70s and highs climbing into the lower to middle 90s thanks to the expected delay in convective development once again. .MID TERM/LONG TERM (Thursday night-Wednesday)... The doldrums of summer continue across our area throughout the extended forecast period. For Friday and continuing into early next week, surface ridge will shift south a bit allowing for a more SE/S flow to become established over the area during the day with sea breezes shifting winds onshore near the coast. This flow will allow for higher atmospheric moisture to move into the peninsula and keep rain chances elevated for much of the extended period. Subtle changes from day to day will impact timing and location of afternoon/evening showers and storms but ample instability and moisture will be in place each day to support 40-60 PoPs area-wide. Warm and humid summertime conditions will persist with high temps within a few degrees of seasonable averages, near 90 to the lower 90s, with overnight lows in the 70s. Heat indices each afternoon will be in the lower 100s. && .AVIATION... Isolated to scattered convection this afternoon and evening will cause some MVFR/local IFR conditions, then VFR conditions should prevail overnight into early Thursday morning. During mid to late Thursday morning some MVFR ceilings will be possible as daytime heating gets underway at the southern TAF sites of PGD, FMY, and RSW, followed by scattered convection during the afternoon and evening. Winds will remain east to southeast this afternoon, except shifting to west to northwest at the coastal TAF sites of TPA, PIE, SRQ as the sea breeze develops. Easterly winds will return to all TAF sites this evening and continue through Thursday morning before shifting to onshore with the sea breeze Thursday afternoon. && .MARINE... Rather light flow will persist for the next few days with a shift to onshore with the sea breeze during each afternoon. Wind speeds will remain less than 15 knots and seas 3 feet or less. The only marine hazard will be isolated to scattered thunderstorms, which could locally enhance winds and seas, and produce heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. && .FIRE WEATHER... No significant fire weather concerns are anticipated for the next several days as relative humidity values remain well above critical thresholds with scattered showers and thunderstorms each day.
