This convection eventually formed into a mesoscale convective system as a low level jet developed overnight. The MCS produced heavy rain as it moved into a tropical airmass over South Central Texas. The MCS dissipated, and then convection redeveloped as a cold front moved through the region on August 21 and produced more heavy rain.

Parts of the Rio Grande Plains have already received 2 to 6 inches of rainfall since Friday afternoon. New rainfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches are possible with isolated 10 inches through late Sunday across the watch area. The time frame for the heaviest rains is expected to be this evening through Sunday morning. Our confidence is high on the potential of localized heavy rain and flash flooding.
