A northwest flow of cold air across Lake Ontario behind a low pressure system tracking across northern New England produced heavy lake effect snows for a large part of north-central New York. The lake effect snows started in northern Oneida County around 6 am and lasted into the afternoon of the 15th. The lake effect snows shifted southward and affected Onondaga, Southern Oneida, and Madison Counties from the mid afternoon to early evening on the 15th. Snowfall amounts generally ranged between 6 and 10 inches.
