Strong west to southwest winds are still possible later this afternoon just behind the low west and south of Dodge City, then shifting to the northwest and increasing to 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts possible. The cold front looks to move across the Dodge City area by around 9 pm to midnight. Some light rain showers may also develop near and north of a Syracuse to Garden City and Hays area this evening, and then end near Hays after midnight. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Overnight lows will be around 28 to 32, except warmer around 35 to 40 for parts of south central Kansas. For Friday, the upper low will be moving away from the Central Plains and into the Upper Midwest. Strong northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph will continue with highs only from the mid to upper 40s. A trailer was damaged and there was heavy tree damage in Satanta. Dozens of pivot irrigation sprinklers near Satanta were rolled over.
There was heavy tree damage in Sublette. At least 2 dozen pivot sprinkler irrigation sprinklers were overturned or destroyed, mainly west and north of Sublette. There were a few sprinklers reported damaged south of town town. There was video of the downburst wind moving through town with a few brief gustnadoes observed on the leading edge of the wall of dirt that was picked up.
Power poles were blown down and at least 2 pivot irrigation sprinklers were overturned in the vicinity.
