Widespread dense fog blanketed southern Illinois during the early morning hours. Visibility fell below one-half mile over all areas with the exception of the Pinckneyville to Benton corridor, where clouds lingered the longest. The fog formed as skies cleared out and winds became very light under a large high pressure dome over the Ohio Valley.
