What happened

The episode as NWS ILM wrote it up.

Convection organized into a line just upstream and moved from west to east across the forecast area. Portions of the line occasionally bowed out. The thunderstorms moved into an environment where there was a great deal of dry air in the mid-levels. Downdraft CAPE values were high and soundings showed a pronounced inverted-V signature.
