A wildfire started in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Steep Hollow Creek in the You Bet area, west of Alta, CA on July 25th at approximately 2:37 pm. The fire was not fully contained until August 10th.

DRY WEATHER CONTINUES ACROSS THE AREA EXCEPT FOR A SLIGHT CHANCE
OF SHOWERS OVER NORTHERN SHASTA COUNTY LATE SUNDAY. TEMPERATURES
NEAR NORMAL THROUGH THE WEEKEND CLIMBING TO WELL ABOVE NORMAL
EARLY NEXT WEEK. TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT IN THE VALLEY RETURNS TUESDAY.

PLENTY OF SUNSHINE ACROSS INTERIOR NORCAL WITH ONLY A FEW CUMULUS
CLOUDS DEVELOPING ALONG THE NORTHERN COAST RANGE. REGIONAL
TEMPERATURES ARE RUNNING SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN 24 HOURS AGO ARE
CURRENTLY IN THE 70S IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH 80S TO LOWER 90S
ELSEWHERE.
WEAK UPPER TROUGH AND ONSHORE FLOW WILL HELP TO KEEP TEMPERATURES
CLOSE TO AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR THROUGH SUNDAY. SHORT-
WAVE PRESENTLY DROPPING DOWN THE BACKSIDE OF THE TROUGH WILL BRUSH
ACROSS FAR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA LATE SUNDAY AND MAY PROVIDE ENOUGH
LIFT FOR A FEW SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS INTO EARLY EVENING ACROSS
THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS.
TROUGH SHIFTS EAST SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY, AND NORTHERLY SURFACE
FLOW BEGINS TO DEVELOP AS SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE
PACNW. WARMING AIRMASS AND NORTHERLY FLOW WILL CUT OFF ANY
LINGERING ONSHORE FLOW RESULTING IN A LITTLE WARMER TEMPERATURES
MONDAY AFTERNOON.
BY TUESDAY, OFFSHORE FLOW BECOMES WELL ESTABLISHED ACROSS THE
ENTIRE REGION AS THE SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH SHIFTS TO THE COAST.
MOST VALLEY LOCALES WILL WARM INTO THE 100 TO 105 RANGE WHILE THE
FOOTHILLS AND MOUNTAINS WILL BE MAINLY IN THE 80S AND 90S.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN OVER THE FOUR CORNERS

CALIFORNIA. WEDNESDAY CURRENTLY APPEARS TO BE THE HOTTEST DAY,
WITH 105-110 DEGREE TEMPERATURES POSSIBLE ACROSS THE VALLEY. A
MODEST COOLING TREND IS EXPECTED BY LATE NEXT WEEK.
WITH SOUTHERLY FLOW ALOFT, COMPUTER MODELS CONTINUE TO SUGGEST
MONSOONAL MOISTURE MOVING NORTHWARD ACROSS NORCAL LATE NEXT WEEK.

There were 2304 acres burned, with a total of 6 firefighters injured. Two firefighters from the US Forest Service and 2 from CAL Fire suffered burns while fighting the fire. One of the firefighters had serious burns and required further hospitalization. There were 2 structures destroyed, 1 damaged. Wildfire suppression costs were estimated to be $18 million.
