What happened

The episode as NWS ALY wrote it up.

A weak cold front passed through the region on Wednesday, August 6th. This front was aided by an upper level shortwave through that moved from Pennsylvania towards southern New York. As a result, a few isolated thunderstorms developed across far southern areas during the late afternoon hours. One of these storms became severe, producing damaging wind gusts and large hail as it passed across eastern Ulster and southwestern Dutchess counties. The threat for storms ended by the evening, as the cold front pushed south across the area.
