A well defined surface trough was positioned across the mid-atlantic and southeast states with an embedded cold front just outside the western border of the forecast area during the morning. An amplified upper level trough built southward during the day which gradually shifted the front to the southeast coastline. Warm and moist conditions were ideal for stronger thunderstorms as the cold front passed along the coast.
