Flash Flooding and Flooding in Missouri, August 5 to 10, 2013

This storm report will include the total estimated damages due to the flooding event. Numerous low water crossings and roadways were flooded and severely damaged due to the flood waters across the county. Highway 60 along with several other roadways were flooded.

Highway U was flooded at several locations.

There was no reports of damage from the hail.

Hail was mostly dime size with some quarter size mixed in.

Multiple trees were blown down and minor roof damage was reported.

Highway 125 was flooded.

Numerous trees and power poles were blown down along with numerous power outages.

Several trees were blown down between Theodosia and Isabella on Highway 160.

Several trees were reported blown down in Theodosia. There was minor roof damage across the lake to the east of town. Several trees were blown down in Isabella.

Several large trees and power lines were blown down between Forsyth and Taneyville.

Highway 125 was impassable due to high water.

Highway U was closed due to flooding.

In twenty minutes, 2.20 inches of rainfall was measured.

Numerous trees were blown down on Highway 160 in Rueter.

Severe trees were blown down.

Several trees and power lines were blown down around Protem.

This storm report will include the total estimated damages due to the flooding across the county. A couple low water crossings were flooded and damaged. Highway 181 was flooded and impassable.

Highway H was flooded and impassable.

A high water rescue was performed at Peck Road near Pedelo Creek.

Several county roads and low water crossings were flooded and impassable.

Numerous county roads and low water crossings were flooded across the southeastern part of the county. Several farm roads including 174, 125, 243, and 170 were impassable.

Highway Y was flooded west of of Ava.

Over a six and a half hour span 5.50 inches of rainfall was reported.

Over a six hour span a total of 6.00 inches of rain was reported.

Over a six and a half hour span, 4.70 inches of rain was reported.

Between midnight and noon a COCORAHS site reported 8.52 inches of rainfall. For the 24 hour period ending at noon, the site received 10.37 inches of rain.

A large tree branch was blown down over the road near the intersection of Main Street and Ewing Street.

A tree was uprooted and a power line was broken.

Mitchell Creek flooded residential and business areas of Waynesville.

Several roadways at Fort Leonard Wood were under water and impassable due to flash flooding.

High water entered houses in Licking due to flash flooding on 32nd Street.

There were reports from social media of severe flooding near downtown Waynesville and water entered numerous homes.

This storm report will be a summary of the total damage for the Waynesville area and Pulaski County for this flooding event. Approximately 90 percent of the roads in the county were damaged with 65 percent of the roads had major damage. There were 25 low water crossings that were totally washed out and numerous more needed repairs. There were up to 100 homes and businesses that were inundated by flood waters. Numerous cars were flooded or washed away. Most of the homes flooded were along Mitchell Creek and Rubidoux River near downtown Waynesville. Over 100 people were rescued from swift and high water. There were two flash flood fatalities which occurred near downtown Waynesville.

One foot of flowing water was over Interstate 44 between mile mark 144 and 145.

A portion of Stockade Road was reported as washed out by flood waters.

Over a four hour span, from midnight to 4 am, 4.47 inches of rain was measured.

Montauk State Park was evacuated due to high water.

A rescue boat with several personnel capsized in high water and were later rescued.

Interstate 44 was closed due to high water.

Highway 7 just north of Interstate 44 was closed due to high water.

Route N near Stockton Road was closed due to high water.

Route N near Springfield Road was closed due to high water.

Highway 7 near Shephard Road was closed to traffic due to high water.

Route A, near Thousand Acres Road was closed due to flooding.

Route BB, near the Dry Auglaize Creek was closed due to high water and flooding.

Route H near Baranowski Drive was closed due to flood waters.

Two sheriff deputies were stranded near Highway 7 and the Gasconade River by high water.

This storm report will include the total estimated damages due to the flooding event. Numerous roadways and low water crossings were flooded and damaged due to the flood waters across the county. Several homes were flooded. Route ZZ near Douglas Road was closed due to flood waters.

Route F, just northeast of Houston was closed due to flooding.

Highway 17 near Indian Creek was closed to to flood waters.

Route C, near Deane Creek was closed due to flood waters.

Route K near Little Tavern Creek was closed to traffic due to flooding.

Route U near Tavern Creek was closed due to flooding.

Over a 6 hour span, a total of 5.48 inches of rainfall was received.

Sheriff reported at least 100 hundred homes and businesses were flooded.

The Department of Natural Resources relayed to the NWS that Montauk State Park was flooded from the Current River. All 90 camp sites were evacuated prior to the flooding.

Old Howell Valley Road was flooded along with several low water areas across the county. Flash flooding of low lying roads and low water crossing was widespread.

Over a three hour span, 3.88 inches of rainfall was measured.

High water was over the roadway at State Highway T.

Several streets in Rolla were flooded with a foot or more of water. One car stalled in the flood water. One low water bridge was flooded and impassable.

A tree struck by lightning fell on power lines at 805 Oaklane Drive.

This storm report will include the total estimated damage for the flooding event. The Little Piney Creek rose two feet in one hour and flooded portions of the town of Newburg. Up to two hundred residents in Newburg had to be evacuated. Several businesses and homes were flooded. There were several low water crossings and roadways that had damage due to flood waters.

County Road 3000 at the Little Dry Fork had approximately two to three feet of rushing water over the bridge and was impassable.

Highway 42 was flooded and impassable near the Maries and Miller County line. A high water rescue was ongoing at the time of the report. No injuries occurred during the rescue.

Highway P west of the Highway T intersection had high water and was impassable.

A bridge was washed out by the First Baptist Church.

Highway 42 was impassable near the intersection of Highway T due to flood waters.

Highway N was closed due to flooding.

The Emergency Manager reported flash flooding of numerous city streets, county roads, and low water crossings throughout several areas of the county.

One resident was evacuated from their home on County Road 213 on the northwest side of town. Several high water rescues were performed. Several homes were flooded and low water crossings damaged.

A twenty-four hour rainfall of 10.50 inches was measured. A storm total of 17 inches of rainfall was measured over several days.

Several buildings along Front Street and 1st Street in downtown Newburg were flooded. The police chief reported moderate to severe street damage due to rushing water.

Several trees were blown down on Highway 32 near the Dent and Texas County line.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed Interstate 44 near mile marker 172 near the Phelps and Pulaski County line. High water from the Gasconade River overflowing its banks was flowing onto the interstate.

Widespread flooding was reported around the Dixon area from the Maries River. Several homes had water in them and numerous streets were impassable.

Route H was closed in both directions near the intersection of Highway T due to flood waters.

Route TT closed in both directions due to flooding in the vicinity of Crooked Creek.

Highway N, west of Mountain Grove was impassable due to high water.

Numerous roads were closed due to flood waters. Several water rescues were performed across the county. No injuries were reported from the water rescues. The Emergency Operations Center reported around three inches of rain during the overnight hours.

Meramec Spring Park was flooded including the campgrounds which had been evacuated prior to flash flooding.

Route TT was closed in both directions along Crooked Creek.

A one hour rainfall of 2.21 inches was reported by the Branson Airport AWOS.

Several residents in the Blue Eye area off Highway 13 and Highway 86 along Brush Creek are being rescued due to high water as water began to enter homes.

Peace In The Valley Road was flooded and impassable.

A two hour rainfall of 5.39 inches was measured by the Branson Airport AWOS.

Highway 59 had water and debris over the roadway.

Taney County Fire and Rescue evacuated and rescued up to 100 residents in the middle of the night along Turkey Creek in Hollister. The Hidden Valley mobile home park and also near Old Mill Road were the hardest affected areas. Several businesses in downtown Hollister near Turkey Creek were flooded and suffered severe damage. Several homes were completely flooded including two mobile homes that were washed away or destroyed. Several cars were also washed away. The St. James Bridge was completely under water. Several other low water crossings across the county were damaged.

There were high water rescues around Noel at several campgrounds with campers being trapped by rising waters along the river.

Route E was closed due to flooding.

The Roaring River gage was at 8.32 feet which meant several campgrounds were flooded.

A vehicle was washed off the road on Highway 90 at Brush Creek just west of Jane. She was driving eastbound at 4:50 am when her car was swept into the stream, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Multiple people had to be rescued at campgrounds along the Elk River near Noel. Several roads and low water crossings were severely damaged due to flooding. Several homes were flooded.

The Branson Airport rain gauge collocated near the AWOS measured a storm total of 8 inches of rainfall.

Water was reported over the road one mile east of the Highway 76, 86 and 112 junction.

Several roads were reported closed across southern Stone County from flood waters.

Route B was closed due to flooding.

Highway 83 was flooded just south of Wheatland.

Main Street was closed due to high water in Reeds Spring.

An observer measured 2.50 inches of rainfall.

There was flash flooding of small streams and roadways around the Conway area.

Highway PP was closed due to flooding.

Three feet of water was reported over Interstate 44 near mile marker 112.

Water was reported over the road near Missouri H and Missouri CC.

High water was over Railroad Drive along the Eleven Point River.

Highway K was flooded.
