A few showers and thunderstorms developed during the morning hours, well ahead of a surface warm front in Kentucky and southwest Virginia.
After temperatures reached into the upper 70s and lower 80s, along with dew points near 60, more numerous showers and thunderstorms formed by late afternoon. Some mid level disturbances and a westerly elevated inflow, helped the convection survive well into the night.
