The last heat wave in July culminated with some of the highest heat indices of the summer on the 24th and numerous high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. The combination of the heat and humidity produced heat index values of around 105 degrees on the 24th.| |The heat wave ended with strong to severe thunderstorms that preceded a strong cold frontal passage during the late afternoon of the 25th. Highest temperatures included 100 degrees in Margate (Atlantic County), 99 degrees at the Atlantic City International Airport (Atlantic County) and Somerdale (Camden County), 98 degrees in New Brunswick (Middlesex County), Berkeley Township (Ocean County), Sicklerville (Gloucester County) and Hillsborough (Somerset County), 97 degrees in Millville (Cumberland County), Marlboro (Monmouth County), Wrightstown (Burlington County) and Wildwood (Cape May County), 96 degrees in Trenton (Mercer County), 95 degrees in Boonton (Morris County) and Flemington (Hunterdon County) and 94 degrees in Swedesboro (Gloucester County) and Somerville (Somerset County).
The month of July was the second hottest July on record in New Jersey dating back to 1895. The monthly statewide mean temperature of 78.4 degrees was only surpassed by 79.0 degrees in 1955. It was the hottest July on record at the Atlantic City International Airport (monthly mean temperature of 79.8 degrees) and was tied with 1955 for the hottest July on record in Trenton (monthly mean temperature of 80.5 degrees). Trenton (21 days) established A new July record for the most days with temperatures of 90 degrees or higher.
