A CoCoRaHs observer reported a storm total snow accumulation of 20.0 inches 6 miles east-southeast of North Judson. Gusty winds, combined with the heavy snow, created blizzard conditions with visibilities below an eighth of a mile at times. Snow drifts between 4 and 7 feet were common. The heavy snow and winds created road and school closures.

Gusty winds, combined with the heavy snow, created blizzard conditions with visibilities below an eighth of a mile at times. Snow drifts between 3 and 6 feet were common. The heavy snow and winds created road and school closures.

An intense lake effect snow band set up and remained nearly stationary over La Porte County during the evening hours of December 12th through the early morning hours of December 14th. Snowfall totals for the event generally ranged between 15 and 32 inches across the county. Total snow accumulations reported were 31.5 inches 4 miles east-southeast of Wanatah, 29.0 inches 5 miles east-southeast of Westville, and 25.2 inches at La Porte. Gusty winds, combined with the heavy snow, created blizzard conditions with visibilities below an eighth of a mile at times. Snow drifts between 4 and 7 feet were common. The heavy snow and winds created road and school closures. Many semitrailer trucks were either jack-knifed or just became stuck on U.S. 421 and U.S. 6, while numerous vehicles were abandoned across the county. The weather also created power outages with almost 10,000 NIPSCO customers without power for a time.
