A fire blackened 235 acres of sugar cane in Paia on the island of Maui on the 5th of the month. The blaze did not threaten any homes or other structures, and there were no serious injuries.

A fire blackened 235 acres of sugar cane in Paia on the island of Maui on the 5th of the month. The blaze did not threaten any homes or other structures, and there were no serious injuries. The losses to the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company were not available. Fire officials believe the fire was caused by fireworks.

WEEK AS HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE REMAINS WELL NORTH OF THE STATE. LOW
CLOUDS WITH EMBEDDED SHOWERS CARRIED BY THE WINDS WILL AFFECT
MAINLY THE WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS OF THE ISLANDS. THE KONA SIDE OF
THE BIG ISLAND MAY SEE SOME AFTERNOON UPSLOPE SHOWERS AND EVENING
SHOWERS MORE ALONG THE COAST AND ADJACENT WATERS.

MORNING...THOUGH MOST SHOWERS FAVOR THE WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN AREAS.
LATEST SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED KAUAI AND WINDWARD BIG ISLAND ARE
SEEING THE MOST CLOUDS...WHILE THE REST OF THE ISLANDS ARE
EXPERIENCING FEWER AT TIME. LOOKS LIKE THESE LOW CLOUDS AND SHOWERS
ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A SHOWERY LOOKING...ALMOST EAST TO WEST
ORIENTED...BAND EXTENDING EAST OF THE ISLANDS. HENCE ALL OF THE
ISLANDS MAY STILL CATCH A FEW SHOWERS THROUGH THE REST OF THE
MORNING...ESPECIALLY FOR THE WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN AREAS.

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE FAR NORTH OF THE STATE CONTINUES TO BE
THE MAIN WEATHER FEATURE FOR THE AREA...PROVIDING MODERATE TRADE
WINDS. AIR MASS IN THE ISLAND VICINITY REMAINS STABLE...AS EARLY
MORNING LIHUE SOUNDING SHOWED A PRETTY STRONG INVERSION AT 6K FEET.
LATEST FORECAST CHARTS HINT LITTLE CHANGES IN THIS WEATHER
SCENARIO...WITH A STABLE AIR MASS RESIDING OVER THE AREA. THUS
TYPICAL TRADE WIND WEATHER WILL PREVAIL OVER THE ISLANDS THROUGH
THIS WEEK...WITH PASSING LOW CLOUDS AND SHOWERS AFFECTING MAINLY
WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN SECTIONS OF THE ISLANDS. THE LEE AREA OF THE
BIG ISLAND WILL SEE DAY TIME CLOUDINESS...WITH SOME AFTERNOON
UPSLOPE SHOWERS...AND SOME EVENING SHOWERS ALONG THE COAST. THERE
MAY BE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN THE WINDS BY THE WEEKEND...AS THE RIDGE
FAR NORTH STRENGTHENS SLIGHTLY.
