An unusually early heat wave affected southeastern Pennsylvania from April 25th through the 27th with high temperatures in the lower 90s each day. High temperatures also reached into the lower 90s on the 26th and 27th in the Lehigh Valley. The combination of the early hot weather and inadequate supplies of water led to more than two dozen people suffering heat exhaustion at a Gatorade Replay football game in Easton (Northampton County) on the 26th. Over 13,000 fans were at the stadium. At least two people were transported to Easton Hospital. The high temperature at Lehigh Valley International Airport on the 26th was 90 degrees.
The highest temperature during the stretch was 93 degrees at the Philadelphia International Airport and 91 degrees at the Lehigh Valley International Airport. This was the first April heat wave in Philadelphia since 2002. A cold front that moved through on the 28th (when temperatures fell just short of reaching 90) ended the hot weather.
