What happened

The episode as NWS RLX wrote it up.

Drought conditions slowly intensified during the late summer and into the autumn. The drought classification reached D2 by mid October across Buchanan and Dickenson Counties.

October rainfall was mostly 1.5 to 1.9 inches.

Many small headwater streams or runs were not flowing. In the Birchleaf area of Dickenson County, springs were dry. Some of those springs were used to fill storage tanks for drinking water.
