NWS storm survey teams determined that one EF1 tornado struck Osceola county. Another EF1 tornado struck Eaton county and continued into extreme western Ingham county before dissipating. Extensive damage was documented in association with both tornadoes. Severe thunderstorms also produced numerous reports of wind damage and large hail.

A STATIONARY FRONT WILL REMAIN SITUATED OVER THE REGION INTO EARLY
NEXT WEEK.  THIS SYSTEM WILL CAUSE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO FORM
EACH DAY...RESULTING IN AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN.  THE POTENTIAL
EXISTS FOR FOR HEAVY RAIN AND SEVERE WEATHER.

.SHORT TERM...(1139 PM EDT SAT JUN 7 2008)
(OVERNIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT)
THE TORNADO WATCH EXPIRES AT MIDNIGHT AND HAVING JUST TALKED TO SPC
THEY DO NOT PLAN ON EXTENDING THE WATCH OR REPLACING IT WITH A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH. THE TRAILING LINE OF STORMS IS STILL
GETTING SOME DECENT INFLOW BUT ONCE IT GETS INTO LOWER MICHIGAN THE
INFLOW SHOULD GET CUT OFF AND THOSE STORMS SHOULD WEAKEN. EVEN SO
THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY TO CONTINUE OVER THE GRR CWA FOR SEVERAL
MORE HOURS YET... EVEN IF THE SEVERE THREAT IS LARGELY OVER.

CLEARLY THE LEAVES THE FLOOD TREAT. THAT IS THE PRIMARY ISSUE
OVERNIGHT. THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN  3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN OVER
PARTS OF ALLEGAN AND OTTAWA AND WESTERN KENT COUNTIES.  GIVEN MORE
RAIN WILL FALL WITH THE SECOND LINE... FLOODING IS THE LARGEST
OVERNIGHT THREAT.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY MORNING THE SLOW MOVING FRONTAL
BOUNDARY WILL KEEP THE RISK FOR ADDITIONAL SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND
HEAVY RAIN.

(TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY)
MODELS ARE IN FAIRLY GOOD AGREEMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LONG
TERM ON TUE HAVING THE COLD FRONT THROUGH THE CWFA. THIS WILL LIKELY
TAKE THE HEAVY RAIN THREAT AND MOST OF THE SEVERE THREAT OUT OF THE
AREA. THE UPPER TROUGH WILL PASS ACROSS THE AREA DURING THE DAY ON
TUE...PROVIDING A RESIDUAL CHANCE OF A SHOWER OR STORM.

COOLER AND SOMEWHAT DRIER AIR WILL MOVE IN THEN BY WED AS HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDS IN OVER THE AREA. THE PATTERN IS THEN EXPECTED TO
RESET...SIMILAR TO THE PATTERN OF THE LAST FEW DAYS. A LONG WAVE
TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO DIG OVER THE WRN PORTION OF THE COUNTRY...
ALLOWING AN UPPER RIDGE TO BUILD OVER THE EAST. ONCE THE RIDGE AXIS
SLIPS EAST...DEEP SW FLOW SETS UP AND WAVES OF SHOWERS AND STORMS
WILL BECOME POSSIBLE FROM THU NIGHT THROUGH SAT. WARMER AND MORE
HUMID WEATHER WILL ALSO BUILD IN FOR THE END OF NEXT WEEK.

WAVES OF THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUES TO MOVE ACROSS THE GRR CWA AS THE
LOW LEVEL JET IS FOCUSED INTO OUR CENTRAL CWA. HOWEVER... AFTER 09Z
THE JET MOVES OUT AND SO SHOULD THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS. I WOULD
EXPECT LOW CLOUDS TO FORM AFTER THE RAIN MOVES OUT DUE TO ALL THE
MOISTURE THAT HAS FALLEN. THUS I PUT ALL TAF SITES WITH MVFR / IFR
CIGS TOWARD SUNRISE.

THE LOW CLOUDS SHOULD MIX OUT BY LATE MORNING THEN WITH THE FRONTAL
BOUNDARY STALLED OVER NRN LOWER MICHIGAN AND MORE SHORT WAVES MOVING
THROUGH THE AREA ANOTHER ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP AND
MOVE INTO THE GRR CWA BY EVENING.

THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ACROSS SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN
FROM WISCONSIN AND LAKE MICHIGAN TILL JUST BEFORE SUNRISE. THE
ALREADY FLOODED AREAS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 96 AND WEST OF ROUTE 131
WILL HAVE THE GREATEST PROBLEMS WITH ADDITIONAL FLOODING FROM HEAVY
RAINFALL SINCE 3 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN THERE AS OF
MIDNIGHT. EAST OF ROUTE 131 AND SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 96 FLOODING IS
ALSO EXPECTED BUT WILL BE MORE LOCALIZED.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY

AS A FRONTAL SYSTEM SLOWLY MOVES SOUTH OF THE REGION THERE WILL BE
A SERIES OF SURFACE WAVES MOVING ALONG IT. THAT WILL BRING PERIODS
OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORM TO THE REGION INTO TUESDAY. SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY DURING THE LATE
AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS OF EACH DAY.

RAINFALL FOR SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY IS EXPECTED TO BE HEAVY IN PLACES.
THE GROUND IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY SATURATED SO THE RUNOFF WILL

A storm survey team in Osceola county determined that a tornado with peak winds approaching 110 mph struck an area from just northeast of Hersey to the Pere Marquette Forest. This corresponds to EF-1 damage on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Damage occurred along an intermittent path about five miles long and up to a half a mile wide. The most intense damage occurred along Cedar road in the Pere Marquette Forest... where a half mile wide section of forest was flattened. Other significant damage occurred about four miles east of Reed City... where winds estimated at around 90 mph damaged a barn and trapped the occupants of a house until the day after the storm.

The tornado occurred within a larger area of downburst wind damage that extended east northeast about 20 miles... beginning one mile northwest of Hersey to the Clare county line west of Lake George. Thousands of trees were snapped or uprooted and several barns and outbuildings were damaged by the winds.

A storm survey team determined that an EF1 tornado developed over Cochran road about four miles southwest of Grand Ledge. Though briefly weakening to EF0 status shortly after descent... the tornado regained it's EF1 status before finally lifting immediately east of the Eckert Plant in Lansing.

Some large tree limbs were blown down and a few spruce trees were uprooted by winds estimated to be up to 63 mph along Mulliken road and Needmore highway. More significant damage was noted on Cochran road north of Needmore highway. Numerous trees and limbs were blown down... a porch awning was blown off and a garage was completely destroyed. An EF1 tornado rating was assigned for the damage on Cochran road.

The tornado continued on Strange highway briefly weakening to EF0. Multiple large trees were uprooted along Strange highway approaching M-100 (Hartel road). Moderate to significant roof damage was observed on four different homes heading north on M-100 where the tornado regained it's EF1 status.

Dozens of large spruces and maples were uprooted on Mt. Hope highway |and four barns were destroyed. Significant roof damage to homes reappeared as well. A woman was killed when a large trailer was flipped on top of her in Delta township on Mt. Hope highway between Nixon and Guinea roads.

The tornado continued toward a subdivision on the west side of Lansing. |Numerous large trees were uprooted on North Cambridge road and a few landed on homes. The country club of Lansing was also affected by downed trees and limbs as the tornado moved into far western Ingham county.

The EF1 tornado continued into northwestern Ingham county where it created it's final burst of damage at the Lansing Board of Water and Light Eckert Plant on Grand River avenue just south of Logan street. One cooling tower was completely destroyed and another was severely damaged. The tornado rapidly weakened and lifted immediately to the east of the plant.
