A negatively titled upper trough moved northeast over eastern Kansas during the afternoon hours bringing thunderstorm activity over much of the Topeka county warning area. Instability was quite limited, so only weak convection developed over the area, however some of the stronger storms were able to mix 45 to 50 kt low level jet winds down to the surface.

A negatively titled upper trough moved northeast over eastern Kansas during the afternoon hours bringing thunderstorm activity over much of the Topeka county warning area. Instability was quite limited, so only weak convection developed over the area, however some of the stronger storms were able to mix 45 to 50 kt low level jet winds down to the surface. There was one report of winds above 50 kts, where some two to three inch diameter tree limbs were broken. No other damage occurred in this fairly benign event.
