Tornado and Flash Flooding in Arkansas, September 2 to 11, 2008

Trees were blown down and power outages occurred in Pearcy. Cornerstone Shopping Center Play Time building collapsed.

A large tree fell onto a power line along U.S. Highway 167 in East End. Five houses had moderate to major damage from trees falling on them. Approximately 47 trees had to be removed from roadways across the county. A tree fell on Cross Street in Benton.

A large tree was down on Cantrell Road.

Trees were down across roads and power was out countywide. A tree fell across East Cedar Street in Warren. It damaged power lines. A tree fell on a home on York Street in Warren.

Trees were down on a power line in Rockport on Division Street. The police barricaded several highways while trees and power lines were removed. Trees were down in Magnet Cove along Arkansas Highway 171. Arkansas Highways 347, 270, and 84 were blocked by trees over power lines. Trees were down near Malvern. One large tree blocked traffic on Wilson Street near the intersection of Wilson and Pine Bluff Street.

Trees and power lines were down throughout Fordyce. Several streets are blocked by downed power lines and trees. A tree fell at Charlotte Street in Fordyce and knocked down a power pole. Two power poles were broken on Holmes Street. Arkansas Highway 273 off of U.S. Highway 167 had a broken power pole.

A few trees and power lines were down. Arkansas Highway 23 was blocked. A golf cart shed in Booneville at the Cherokee Creek Country Club was demolished. A pecan tree on Grove Street in Magazine was toppled.

Trees were down on two homes in Sheridan. A tree fell on a power line outside of the post office.

A tree was down on a house in Morrilton and on a house in Plumerville.

Trees were down on roadways and rooftops. Many utility poles were snapped.

Wind damage occurred in the White Hall area. A couple of trees were down in the Sherrill area and on Arkansas Highway 104. A home on Pinto Road had significant roof damage. High winds blew the facing off of a roof of a gas station on Harding Avenue.

A power line was down on East Magnolia Street in Rison. Trees were down all over the county.

Trees were down across power lines in Arkadelphia.

A car was destroyed when a large sycamore tree fell on it on West Waterman Street in Clarion.

Large trees were down across the county. High winds blew the top off a barn and brought down farm equipment.

Trees and power lines were down. Pine trees were brought down on U.S. Highway 70 just east of Glenwood.

A few trees were down in Batesville on State Street, 25th and Case Street.

A weak tornado was spawned by Tropical Depression Gustav. A mobile home had damage to its roof, the porch roof and the underpinning were torn off, and the carport sailed up a hill and became stuck in a fence. A storm door was torn off a house, as were a few pieces of siding. A carport and trampoline at a house were destroyed. A few large limbs were torn off trees.

Arkansas Highways 7, 8 and 51 were closed due to flooding. Arkansas Highway 51 at section 2A was closed due to high water.

Flooding occurred on Lawler Road off of Amity Road. Small creeks were flooded.

Approximately 5.5 inches of rain fell. Low water bridges and crossings were flooded.

Numerous paved and gravel roads washed out and flooded throughout the county. Arkansas Highway 160 at U.S. Highway 63 was closed due to flooding.

Several homes flooded and had to be evacuated. Some roads and bridges flooded. A bridge on Military Road was under water. Many people were stranded at their homes in the Glen Rose community due to high water.

Several roads were blocked due to flooding. Arkansas Highway 7 near section 5A was closed due to high water. County Road 101 had a bridge washed out. Also, County Road 201 suffered damage.

There was flooding in Hampton. An assisted living center had to be evacuated. Arkansas Highway 203 along with other roads were impassable due to flooding. U.S Highway 167 at mile marker 9 was flooded. Three people had to be evacuated from their residences in Hampton.

Sanderlin Road, Panther Creek Road, 4 Mile Creek Road, 16th Section Road, Old Warren Road, Old Dermott Road and Arkansas Highway 172 west of U.S. Highway 425 were closed due to flooding.

Arkansas Highways 5 and 7 were closed due to flooding.

A mobile home park in Jacksonville was flooded. Flooding occurred along U.S. Highway 67/167 between Jacksonville and Cabot, backing up traffic for miles.

Arkansas Highway 7 near Section 4A was closed due to high water.

Dupree Park was under water in Jacksonville.

A road was barricaded at Roundtop on the east side of Sherwood.

Flooding occurred across the county. Arkansas Highway 7 at Arkansas Highway 27 in Dover was closed due to high water.

Flooding occurred on the streets of Paris and Subiaco. Cherry Street at the intersection of Maple and a one block section of South Fifth Street between Maple and Wahl Street were closed due to flooding. In Subiaco, North Leo Street was closed. Cove Lake flooded the Cove Lake Campground.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Gustav created minor flooding along the Ouachita River. Arkansas Highway 7 was flooded southeast of Arkadelphia at the railroad underpass. Approximately 1100 acres of rice, soybeans, and corn were flooded and destroyed in the Arkadelphia vicinity.

Numerous roads were flooded in Conway and throughout Faulkner County. A pickup truck was washed off Springfield Road, west of Bono, and ended up 50 yards out in a field with water up to its windows. Four occupants of the truck were rescued, uninjured, by a swift water rescue team.

Flooding occurred across the county. Arkansas Highway 291 between Tull and Prattsville was closed due to flooding. Arkansas Highway 46 West at 2A was closed due to high water.

Many county roads and backroads were flooded. One foot of water was over Amity Road.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Gustav caused the third highest crest of record for the Saline River at Benton. Arkansas Highway 5 was flooded as well as several streets in Benton. A manufactured home subdivision flooded with as many as 20 structures affected. Five homes were flooded on River Street and other side streets. A horse farm also flooded with a barn and practice race track damaged.

Roadways were flooded in Blakemore.

Crystal Hill Road was flooded in several places. Barricades were implemented.

One-half mile of Arkansas Highway 80 had approximately a foot of water over it. Arkansas Highway 28 was closed due to water over the road.

Arkansas Highway 14 was under water about 5 miles east of Mountain View.

Several roads were flooded in Quitman. The roads were Cadron Creek Road, Bettis Road, Wesley Road, Tiger B Road and Antioch Road.

At least one home was flooded.

A car stalled in high water along Arkansas Highway 89 between Lonoke and Furlow.

High water was observed at a sand and gravel company on Arkansas Highway 321 near Cabot.

Flooding occurred across the county. Arkansas Highways 9, 92 and 95 had water over them. Arkansas Highway 124 north of Arkansas Highway 95, Friar Bridge Road, Union Chapel Road, Bostain Loop, Turkey Pond Loop, Bald Knob Road, Solgohachia Road, and Shaw Bridge Road were all closed. Arkansas Highway 287 two miles south of Arkansas Highway 95 was closed due to high water.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Gustav created high water along the White River. While the stage did not exceed the established flood level for the Newport gage, there was substantial flooding of crops within the floodplain. Approximately 3000 acres of soybeans were damaged or destroyed by the high water.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Gustav created minor flooding along the White River. Approximately 1000 acres of soybeans were flooded and destroyed in the Augusta vicinity on the Woodruff County side of the river.
