High Surf in American Samoa, July 1 to 23, 2008
Heavy swell from a series intense low pressure systems far south of American Samoa combined with strong trade wind surge generated surf of 8 to 14 feet with occasional higher sets. This high surf episode lasted from June 24th continuing towards July 23th.

Heavy swell from a series intense low pressure systems far south of American Samoa combined with strong trade wind surge generated surf of 8 to 14 feet with occasional higher sets. This high surf episode lasted from June 24th continuing towards July 23th. Heavy surf impacted south facings shores of Tutuila, Aunuu, and Manua. Some coastal flooding were reported during high tides from Pagai to Cape Matatula on the 14th of July. The rainfall recorded on this day was 1.78 inches, which was the highest rainfall for the month of July. In addition, high surf advisory were posted on major beaches and were announced on local media for public awareness. Therefore, activities and beach goers were not as much seen on major beaches. No significant damages were reported.
