The long-duration winter storm of December 22-23rd that affected the counties of Marquette, Sauk, Iowa, and Lafayette, subsided to a winter weather event during the evening hours of December 23rd. Some minor to moderate blowing and drifting snow continued as west-southwest winds of 25 to 32 knots (30 to 37 mph) gusted to 30 to 49 knots (35 to 45 mph). Visibilities in open rural areas was occasionally reduced to 1/2 to 3/4 mile. Refer to a Strong Wind event for December 23rd for related wind information. Synoptically, low pressure deepened rapidly as it moved northeast through southeast Wisconsin on its way to the Upper Penesula of Michigan.
