AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI
830 PM HST MON MAR 26 2007

.SYNOPSIS...
A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL ADVANCE TO OUR AREA IN THE NEXT
COUPLE OF DAYS...AND LINGER THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK. IT WILL
KEEP THE WINDS LIGHT...ALLOWING LOCAL LAND AND SEA BREEZES TO
DOMINATE.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
SURFACE PRESSURE FROM THE REPORTING STATIONS AROUND THE ISLANDS HAS
DROPPED ABOUT ONE MILLIBAR COMPARING TO YESTERDAY AT THE SAME
TIME...AS A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE APPROACHES THE ISLANDS FROM THE
NORTHWEST. WINDS HAVE SHIFTED MORE SOUTHEASTERLY AS WELL...AND HAVE
DECREASED QUITE A BIT COMPARING TO LAST NIGHT. THE SOUTHEASTERLY
WINDS HAVE PUSHED THE PLUME CLOUDS FROM THE BIG ISLAND OVER THE
WESTERN ISLANDS THIS EVENING. LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE A LITTLE MORE
CLOUDIER FOR OAHU THIS EVENING. EXPECT SOME OF THESE CLOUDS TO
DISSIPATE OVERNIGHT. RAINFALL HAS BEEN SPORADIC THIS EVENING AS
EXPECTED AND SITES ON OAHU REPORTED THE MOST SO FAR...WHICH IS NOT
SURPRISING DUE TO THE CLOUDINESS. IN FACT...OLOMANA GAUGE IN THE
EAST OAHU JUST REPORTED A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN IN THE LAST
HALF HOUR.

LOW PRESSURE FAR NORTHWEST OF THE ISLANDS CONTINUES TO MOVE
EAST...WITH A SURFACE TROUGH EXTENDING SOUTHWESTWARD AND HEADING
TOWARDS OUR ISLANDS. FORECAST CHARTS STILL INDICATE THIS TROUGH WILL
ARRIVE THE ISLANDS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. EXPECT WINDS TO
REMAIN LIGHT AS THIS TROUGH REACHES OUR AREA. CONVECTIVE TYPE
WEATHER REGIME WILL SET IN...WITH DAYTIME SEA BREEZE DEVELOPING
UNDER INSOLATION AND NIGHTTIME LAND BREEZE DEVELOPING UNDER
RADIATIONAL COOLING OVER LAND. CLOUDS WILL DEVELOP UNDER DAYTIME
HEATING OVER THE LAND...THEN SPREAD OUT DURING THE EVENING HOURS AND
DISSIPATE OVERNIGHT. FORECAST CHARTS ALSO INDICATE MOISTURE IS
LIMITED THROUGH THE PERIOD...AND AIR MASS WILL REMAIN MARGINALLY
UNSTABLE. THUS EXPECT PRECIPITATION FROM CONVECTION TO HAVE LIMITED
AREAL COVERAGE...THOUGH LOCALLY HEAVIER DOWNPOURS ARE QUITE
POSSIBLE.

FORECAST CHARTS ARE ALSO CONSISTENT IN THE DURATION OF THIS WEATHER
PATTERN...IN THAT IT WILL PERSIST AT LEAST THROUGH THE REST OF THIS
WEEK. IT WILL THUS BE SOME TIME BEFORE WE SHALL SEE TRADE WINDS OR
TRADE WIND WEATHER AGAIN.
