AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON NC 351 PM EDT TUE JUN 6 2006 .SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/... SATELLITE/RADAR LOOPS TELL THE STORY THIS AFTERNOON AS DISTINCT MID-LEVEL SPIN IS EVIDENT ON THE WATER VAPOR IMAGERY WHILE WSR-88D LOOPS TELL THE STORY AT THE SURFACE. THE CWA EXPERIENCING SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEFORMATION ZONE OF THIS FEATURE. WILL WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO ADDRESS EVENING POPS FOR THESE AREAS BASED ON TRENDS. WILL ALSO ADD FOG TO ZONES IN THESE AREAS FOR THE MORNING HOURS. MID-LEVEL LOW GETS KICKED OUT WED. AND FLOW BACKS BRIEFLY. AT THE SURFACE...WEAK HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN ACROSS THE AREA. ANOTHER SHORT-WAVE MOVES THROUGH THE AREA LATE THURSDAY RIDING THE NORTHWEST FLOW ONCE AGAIN. NAM AND GFS DIFFER SOMEWHAT IN DEPICTIONS AS THE GFS HAS TWO SEPARATE FEATURES...ONE LATE THURSDAY AND A MORE SIGNIFICANT SHORT-WAVE EARLY FRIDAY. THE NAM HAS ONE DISTINCT SYSTEM LATE THURSDAY. AT THIS POINT...IT MAKES LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN PREFERENCE AS BOTH DEPICTIONS WARRANT LOW CHANCE POPS...WITH THE HIGHER VALUES TO THE NORTH FOR THURSDAY PM. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... MADE FEW CHANGES TO THE LONG RANGE FORECAST...BUT THE THEME REMAINS THE SAME...BASICALLY DRY WITH A WARMING TREND. TEMPERATURES TREND FROM NEAR CLIMATOLOGY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD TO A FEW DEGREES ABOVE BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. && .AVIATION... CONVECTION AROUND THE WEST SIDE OF CUTOFF UPPER LOW TO MAINLY AFFECT ILM AND CRE BEFORE QUICKLY DISSIPATING EITHER SIDE (MORE LIKELY JUST BEFORE) SUNSET. GUIDANCE SUGGESTING THAT VFR REMAINS FOR THE REST OF THE PD BUT MVFR FOG TOUGH TO RULE OUT ESP WHERE IT RAINS. BETTER FOG FCST WILL BE POSSIBLE NEXT PACKAGE AFTER THIS DETERMINATION CAN BE MADE. && .MARINE... BROAD OFFSHORE LOW PRESSURE CENTER WILL MOVE NORTH OVERNIGHT WHILE STRENGTHENING AS WEAK HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN FROM THE WEST. LATEST GFS HAS TROUGHING DEVELOPING OVER THE EASTERN SEABOARD AND COASTAL WATERS THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...WITH WEAK HIGH PRESSURE RETURNING FOR SUNDAY. BASED EXTENDED ON HPC DATA. WINDS AND SEAS IN SHORT TERM WILL BE FAIRLY BENIGN EXCEPT IN THE VICINITY OF ANY CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY. && .ILM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NC...NONE. SC...NONE. MARINE...NONE. && SHORT TERM...SHK LONG TERM...SHK AVIATION...MBB MARINE...REK
