What happened

The episode as NWS HFO wrote it up.

Heavy showers over northern parts of Oahu caused small stream and drainage ditch flooding, and ponding on roadways. The Kawainui Stream overflowed for a time, stranding 24 hikers along a nearby trail. The hikers were rescued by firefighters using a helicopter. There were no reports of serious injuries or property damage.

THE STRONG TRADE WINDS WILL EASE OFF A BIT MONDAY BUT AN UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH WILL BE ENHANCING SOME OF THE SHOWERS EMBEDDED IN THE TRADE
WIND FLOW INTO TUESDAY. THESE CLOUDS AND SHOWERS WILL BE FAVORING
THE MOUNTAIN AND WINDWARD AREAS ALTHOUGH A STRAY SHOWER OR TWO MAY
REACH THE LEEWARD SHORELINE. THE PRESENCE OF THE UPPER LOW MAY ALSO
FIRE UP A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO OVER THE KONA SLOPES DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS INTO TUESDAY.

AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE FAR NORTH OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS IS SLATED
TO WEAKEN SLIGHTLY DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS...RESULTING IN CALMER
TRADES. HOWEVER...A SLOW MOVING...ILL DEFINED UPPER LEVEL LOW
CURRENTLY OVER THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS WILL BE ENHANCING THE LOW
LEVEL MOISTURE RIDING IN WITH THE TRADES INTO TUESDAY. THIS FEATURE
HAS ALREADY RESULTED IN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE NORTH AND
EAST FACING PARTS AND ADJACENT WATERS OF THE BIG ISLAND THIS
MORNING. THIS UPPER LEVEL FEATURE IS WORKING WITH REMNANTS MOISTURE
OF FORMER TROPICAL DEPRESSION FABIO. AS PER GFS...INTO TUESDAY THIS
UPPER LOW WILL BE DRIFTING NORTHWARD...BUT STILL WITHIN RANGE TO
INFLUENCE OUR ISLAND WEATHER...WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND A SLIGHT
CHANCE OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE KONA SLOPES OF THE BIG
ISLAND. IT WON/T BE UNTIL WEDNESDAY WE SEE A SIGNIFICANT DROP OFF IN
SHOWERS AND THE CESSATION OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE KONA SLOPES. THE
WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN AREAS WILL ABSORB MOST OF THE SHOWERS BUT A
FEW WILL SLIP THROUGH TO OVER THE LEEWARD BEACHES.

THE SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS SLATED TO EXPIRE AT 6 THIS EVENING.
LOOKING AT THE MOST RECENT WIND DATA STATEWIDE...BELIEVE WE MAY HAVE
TO EXTEND THE ADVISORY THROUGH TONIGHT FOR WATERS AROUND THE BIG
ISLAND. WILL MAKE THAT DECISION THIS AFTERNOON.
