AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
537 AM EDT SAT MAY 6 2006

.SHORT TERM...(TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT)
STATIONARY FRONT OVER CENTRAL-S GA TODAY. HOWEVER...MOISTURE AT A
MINIMUM SO NOT EXPECTING PRECIP. AN INCREASE OF MOISTURE TONIGHT
ALONG WITH A SHORT WAVE WILL BRING PRECIP CHANCES BACK INTO THE
FORECAST LATE. PLENTY OF MOISTURE OVER THE AREA FOR SUNDAY AS WEAK
LOW PRESSURE GETS ORGANIZED OVER THE LOWER MS VALLEY AND MOVES TO
THE TN VALLEY WHILE A STATIONARY OR WARM FRONT REMAINS ACROSS
CENTRAL TO S GA. POTENTIAL FOR COLD AIR DAMMING TO OCCUR OVER N GA.
A SHORT WAVE IS ALSO EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS DURING THE DAY. THIS
WILL LEAD TO HIGH CHANCES FOR PRECIP AND POTENTIAL FOR STRONG AND
POSSIBLY SEVERE STORMS OVER CENTRAL AND MAYBE PARTS OF N GA. PRECIP
CHANCES DECREASING SUNDAY NIGHT AS MOISTURE MOVES INTO THE CAROLINAS
AS A WEAK COLD FRONT MOVES INTO W GA.

.LONG TERM...(MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY)
SMALL CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY OVER PARTS OF
CENTRAL GA AS A WEAK COLD FRONT STALLS CLOSE TO THAT AREA.
MOISTURE BEGINS TO RETURN TO THE AREA LATER TUESDAY AND CONTINUES
INTO WEDNESDAY WITH A PERIOD OF UNSETTLED WEATHER EXPECTED UNTIL A
COLD FRONT MOVES ACROSS THE AREA THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT.
THIS WILL DRY THINGS OUT FOR FRIDAY. FOR THE MOST PART...
TEMPERATURES WILL RUN CLOSE TO SEASONAL NORMALS.

&&

.AVIATION...
AN AREA OF STRATO CU WAS MOVING SOUTH ACROSS THE EASTERN PART OF THE
CWA AND THIS WILL CLIP MCN FROM 10Z TO 11Z. OTHERWISE DRY AIR WAS
SPREADING OVER THE NORTHERN PART OF THE FORECAST AREA AND THIS WAS
KEEPING FOG FROM DEVELOPING...HOWEVER STILL CANT RULE OUT LIGHT FOG
(VSBYS 4 TO 5SM) PRIOR TO SUNRISE IN AHN/CSG AREAS. AFTER SUNRISE IT
WILL BE VFR THROUGH 06Z SUN. WINDS WILL REMAIN WEST TO NORTHWEST
THROUGH 00Z AND THEN GO LIGHT AND VARIABLE. THE STORM SYSTEM OVER
ERN TX WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT THE TAF SITES WITH MID LEVEL CLOUDS
BEGINNING AFTER 00Z SUN. CIGS WILL LOWER TO MVFR BETWEEN 06Z AND 12Z
SUN MOST SITES AND THERE IS A CHANCE OF SHOWERS WITH VSBYS GOING
DOWN TO 3 TO 5 SM -SHRA BR. BOTH ETA/GFS INDICATE A WEAK RIDGE
BUILDING INTO NORTH GA BY 06Z SHIFTING THE WINDS TO EAST TO
NORTHEAST ABOUT 5 TO 10 KTS. AT THIS POINT DO NOT EXPECT ANY THUNDER
AT THE TAF SITES UNTIL AFTER 12Z SUN.
