AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY - HANFORD CA
915 PM PDT FRI JUL 7 2006

.UPDATE...SKIES ARE CLEAR ACROSS THE REGION THIS EVE. UPPER RIDGE
WILL CONT TO STRENGTHEN TONITE AND SAT...AND MODELS FCST THICKNESS
INCREASES OF 50-60 METERS ALONG WITH 4 DEGS/C WARMING AT H85.
THUS...TEMPS WHICH WERE RIGHT AT AVERAGE TODAY...WILL CLIMB EVEN
MORE SAT. CURRENT FCST TRENDS RIGHT ON AND NO UPDATE NEEDED THIS
EVE.

.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...ISSUED 230 PM PDT...
SHORT TERM...CLEAR SKIES ACROSS THE AREA WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE
VALLEY 1-4 DEGREES HIGHER THAN 24 HOURS AGO. WATER VAPOR IMAGES SHOW
AN UPPER SHORT WAVE IN W AZ WITH THE AXIS OF MONSOON MOISTURE
REMAINING ALONG AND EAST THE COLORADO RIVER. SOME STORMS HAVE
DEVELOPED TOWARDS E SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY. EXPECT THIS ACTIVITY TO
REMAIN EAST OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AS MODELS INDICATED THE UPPER VORT
MAX PUSHING N TOWARDS UT AND CO. OTHERWISE A HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE
WILL RESULT IN DRY AND WARM WEEKEND. THERE MAY BE MORE CUMULUS
BUILDUPS OVER THE SIERRA SUNDAY AS GFS PROGS MID LEVEL
MOISTURE EDGING W TOWARDS THE SIERRA. AN UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE
WILL MOVE THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TURNING THE UPPER FLOW
ONSHORE. GFS SHOWS A COUPLE OF WEAK UPPER DISTURBANCE LEAVING A
BAGGY TROUGH ALONG COASTAL CALIFORNIA MONDAY. WILL ADVERTISE A
LITTLE COOLING MONDAY AS FLOW TURNS ONSHORE. GFS PROGS COOLER
TEMPERATURES ALONG COASTAL INLAND VALLEYS AND STRONGER ONSHORE GRADS
MAY BRING SOME OF THE COOLER MARINE AIR INTO THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY.

.LONG TERM...MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY...
PATTERN WILL BEGIN TO BECOME MORE AMPLIFIED IN THE EARLY PART OF
NEXT WEEK AS A STRONG TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL APPROACH THE AREA
ON TUESDAY AND BRING IN HEIGHT FALLS THROUGH THURSDAY. HEIGHTS ARE
EXPECTED TO BE LOW ENOUGH FOR THE HIGHS DURING MOST OF NEXT WEEK TO
BE BELOW NORMAL AS THE TROUGH MOVES THROUGH. THE DIFFERENCES IN THE
MODELS REALLY START TO SHOW UP ROUND THURSDAY AND INTO FRIDAY AS THE
GFS HOLD THE TROUGH IN OVER THE AREA AND THE ECMWF IS MORE
PROGRESSIVE. AT THIS TIME WE WILL GO WITH A CLIMATOLOGY FORECAST FOR
DAY 7 SINCE THERE IS LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN THE MODELS. THE INCREASED
SW FLOW WILL ALLOW FOR SOME CLOUDS ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA AND
ESPECIALLY ALONG THE SIERRAS. NO SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS ARE
EXPECTED DUE TO LIMITED MOISTURE AND VERY LITTLE IN THE WAY OF
VERTICAL LIFT. WIND PROFILES REMAIN RELATIVELY WEAK THROUGH THE
BOUNDARY LAYER.

.AVIATION...VFR CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL THROUGH 00Z SATURDAY.
FOR SPECIFIC DETAILS...PLEASE REFER TO TAFS FOR KMCE...KFAT AND
