Winds in excess of 35 mph were reported in many areas. These winds, together with very dry soil conditions, combined to result in dense blowing dust and blowing sand, which cut the visibility to less than 1/4 mile in some areas. One of the strongest wind speeds was measured at Chandler Municipal airport where a peak gust of 56 mph occurred just before 6 pm MST.
