Trims Camp of the State of Alaska Department of Transportation reported that 12 inches of snow had fallen since noon AST on the 3rd. Snow continued through much of the day but there was little accumulation after 8am AST.

NORTHERN ALASKA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FAIRBANKS AK 508 AM ADT TUE APR 4 2006 .DISCUSSION... THE 500 MB LOW NEAR AMBLER IS A BIT DEEPER THAN MODELS INITIALIZE. THE ETA MAINTAINS THIS LOW IN PLACE THROUGH THU AT A BIT LOWER HEIGHT THAN THE GFS MODEL. FOR THIS REASON PREFER THE ETA MODEL. ANOTHER LOW ALOFT OVER THE ALASKA PENINSULA WILL MOVE EAST IN TO THE GULF OF ALASKA TUE AFTERNOON THEN DROP SOUTHEAST. THIS WILL ALLOW COLD AIR ALONG THE BERING STRAIT TO DROP DOWN INTO THIS SECOND LOW AND FORM A LONG WAVE TROUGH OVER MAINLAND ALASKA. WEAK SOUTHERLY FLOW ALOFT OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF THE STATE WILL CAUSE MOISTURE TO RIDE UP OVER THE ARCTIC AIRMASS CAUSING SOME SNOW. A COLD FRONT LYING FROM BETHEL TO FORT YUKON WILL MOVE NORTH AND EAST TO A POSITION FROM ANAKTUVUK PASS TO FORT YUKON TO DELTA JUNCTION WED PM. THIS WILL SERVE AS A FOCUS FOR SNOWFALL WITH 1-4 INCHES EXPECTED ALONG THIS FEATURE. NORTHEAST WINDS ALONG THE COLD FRONT WILL DIMINISH WEST OF THE TONIGHT.
