A COLD FRONT...THAT STRETCHED FROM SW IOWA TO THE TEXAS AND OK
PANHANDLES AT MID AFTERNOON...WILL CONTINUE TO SLOWLY SLIDE SE
OVERNIGHT AND SHOULD PUSH INTO AT LEAST THE NORTHERN PORTION OF
NORTH TEXAS BY MORNING. AIR SHOULD BE HIGHLY MODIFIED...BUT IT
SHOULD AT LEAST KEEP LOWER DEW POINTS AROUND AND THE COOLER
NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING FOR THE NEXT
COUPLE OF DAYS. MODELS NOT VERY CONSISTENT WITH THIS BOUNDARY...
BUT GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF COOL AIR AND THAT THE FRONT HAS CONTINUED
TO PUSH SOUTH DURING THE DAY...WILL GO WITH THE FASTER AND FARTHER
SOUTH ETA SOLUTION. ATMOSPHERE RATHER DRY SO WILL NOT MENTION POPS

Drought conditions which began in May continued to plague the region in September. A large area of east and north Texas was considered to be in severe drought (D2) as classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor. The Texas Forest Service categorized North Texas at the highest potential risk for grass fires because of maximum drought conditions. Several large grass fires burned dozens of acres across north Texas. The drought caused significant agricultural impacts across the region. Many farmers were only able to get 1-2 cuttings of hay this year, as compared to 3-4 cuttings in normal years. Ranchers were forced to either sell their cattle before winter and plan to buy more next spring, or pay higher prices for hay. The drought continued into October.
