RIVER FRIDAY EVENING WITH SCATTERED CONVECTION SPREAD DOWN TO I-20

UPPER LEVEL PATTERN NOW CHANGING WITH NWLY FLOW AT 500 MB RESULTING
IN COLD ADVECTION IN THE MID LEVELS.  THIS WILL INCREASE INSTABILITY
TOMORROW AS FRONT AIDED BY CONVECTIVE OUTFLOWS MOVES SOUTH INTO OK.
ETA LOOKS TOO FAST WITH CONVECTION AND BELIEVE MOST OF THE AREA WILL
REMAIN DRY THROUGH FRI AFTERNOON...EXCEPT FOR THE COUNTIES NEAR THE
RED RIVER DUE TO THE CLOSER PROXIMITY TO ANY OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES.  A
PRONOUNCED MID LEVEL WIND MAX ACCOMPANIED BY A SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL
AID IN SYNOPTIC SCALE ASCENT AND FAVORABLE SHEAR PROFILES BY THE
LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ACROSS SW OKLAHOMA.  GFS/ETA/UKMET MODELS
CONTINUE TO HINT THAT A MCS MAY DEVELOP TO THE NW OF THE CWA BY
SUNSET FRIDAY NIGHT WITH A SELY MOTION.  INCREASING SURFACE BASED
CIN WILL CAUSE THE MCS TO BECOME ELEVATED AND WEAKEN AS IT CROSSES
INTO THE CWA AND THE QUESTION IS HOW FAR WILL IT HOLD TOGETHER.

FROM MOS ACCORDINGLY WITH PERSISTENCE USED THROUGH TOMORROW...THEN
SLIGHTLY COOLER SATURDAY NORTH/EAST DUE TO CONVECTION.

RIDGE WILL BUILD BACK IN ON SUNDAY WITH A WARM UP AGAIN AS 850 TEMPS
INCREASE WITH BETTER SW LOW LEVEL FLOW.  THEN A SLIGHT COOL DOWN
OCCURS EARLY NEXT WEEK AS MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW THE RIDGE BACKING
OFF TO THE WEST AND BEING REPLACED BY AN UPPER LEVEL WEAKNESS OVER
THE EASTERN HALF OF TEXAS.  MODELS HAVE SHOWN GOOD CONSISTENCY WITH
THIS FEATURE THE LAST FEW DAYS...AND THIS WOULD RESULT IN CHANCES OF
RAIN MAINLY IN THE AFTERNOON AND TEMPERATURES COOLING TO NEAR NORMAL
IN THE LATER HALF OF THE EXTENDED.  8-14 DAY OUTLOOK FROM THE
CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER IS ALSO INDICATING BELOW NORMAL TEMPS AND
ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION.  SO EVEN THOUGH SUMMER HAS STARTED OFF
HOT AND DRY...THERE IS SOME HOPE FOR AT LEAST A TEMPORARY CHANGE IN
THIS PATTERN IN EARLY TO MID JULY.

HEAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE A HAZARD OVER NORTH TEXAS THROUGH THE
EXTENDED FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND. AFTERNOON HEAT INDICES WILL CLIMB
INTO THE 100 TO 105 DEGREE RANGE ACROSS MOST OF NORTH TEXAS EACH
DAY. WITH MANY PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OVER THE HOLIDAY
WEEKEND...PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PREVENT HEAT-RELATED
PROBLEMS.

THERE IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND FRIDAY NIGHT
OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF NORTH TEXAS...GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF
INTERSTATE 20. A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA AND BECOME
THE FOCUS FOR THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. A FEW STORMS COULD BRIEFLY
BECOME SEVERE...MAINLY NEAR THE RED RIVER...AND PRODUCE DOWNBURST
WINDS AND HAIL.

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY EAST OF INTERSTATE
35 ON SATURDAY AND REGION-WIDE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.  SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS ARE NOT ANTICIPATED.

By the end of the month, almost all of north Texas was considered to be in severe drought (D2) as classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor. In addition, a large area which included the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex was in extreme drought (D3). The Texas Cooperative Extension reported that grass growth was slowed by dry conditions in central, east, and south Texas, and according to the agricultural districts of Dallas, drought conditions caused pasture conditions to deteriorate substantially according to the Federal Reserve's Beige Book. The drought continued into August.
