What happened

The episode as NWS PHI wrote it up.

A low pressure system that developed along the Gulf Coast States on the 5th moved quickly northeast and dropped heavy snow across the local Philadelphia area with lighter snow in the northwestern Philadelphia suburbs. Little if any snow fell from Berks County and the Lehigh Valley northward. The snow began during the late afternoon and early evening of the 5th, but fell lightly through the evening. The heaviest snow fell after Midnight EST on the 6th. The snow ended around sunrise on the 6th. Accumulations averaged two to four inches with the highest amounts in the local Philadelphia area. Specific accumulations included 4.0 inches at the Philadelphia International Airport and Havertown (Delaware County), 3.5 inches in Wynnewood (Montgomery County) and Neshaminy Falls (Bucks County), 2.8 inches in Unionville (Chester County), 2.5 inches in New Hope (Bucks County), 1.5 inches in Valley Forge (Chester County), 1.2 inches in Doylestown (Bucks County) and 0.5 inches in Royersford (Montgomery County), Fricks (Bucks County) and Glenmoore (Chester County) A low pressure system developed over Georgia early on the 5th and moved northeast. The low deepened as it began to move off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on Monday night the 5th. The low pressure system moved relatively quickly and was east of New England by noon on the 6th. The fast movement and the relative offshore track prevented heavy snow from getting much farther west than the local Philadelphia area.
