.SYNOPSIS...TROUGHING ALOFT AND ABUNDANT LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WILL
KEEP THE POSSIBILITY OF HEAVY TRADE WIND SHOWERS ALIVE THROUGH
THURSDAY. DRIER AND MORE STABLE WEATHER IS EXPECTED FRIDAY AND
THEREAFTER. SURF ALONG SOUTHERN SHORES WILL REMAIN ELEVATED THROUGH
FRIDAY.

.DISCUSSION...THE FEATURE AFFECTING HAWAIIAN WEATHER THE MOST THIS
EVENING IS AN UPPER TROUGH WITH AN AXIS 300 TO 400 MILES WEST OF THE
MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. WE ARE IN THE UNSTABLE UPLIFT PORTION OF THIS
TROUGH...WITH SOUTHWEST WINDS NOTED IN SOUNDINGS ABOVE ABOUT 10000
FEET. A SHORT WAVE TRAVELING THROUGH THE BASE OF THE LONG WAVE
TROUGH IS CURRENTLY TRIGGERING HEAVY SHOWERS OVER KAUAI AND AREAS OF
WINDWARD OAHU. HEAVY SHOWERS AND POSSIBLY THUNDERSTORMS MAY OCCUR
ACROSS THESE ISLANDS TONIGHT BEFORE THE SHORT WAVE MOVES AWAY.

THE 00Z GFS75 SHOWS THE UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE REGION
THROUGH THURSDAY...ENHANCING TRADE WIND SHOWERS OVER MAINLY WINDWARD
AND MAUKA AREAS. LEEWARD SLOPES OF THE BIG ISLAND MAY SEE SOME
ENHANCEMENT AS WELL IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ON FRIDAY THE
UPPER TROUGH WILL DRIFT TO THE NORTHWEST AND WEAK RIDGING WILL BUILD
OVER THE STATE FROM THE EAST. THIS WILL BRING A SLIGHT INCREASE IN
STABILITY AND REDUCE THE THREAT OF HEAVY SHOWERS FOR THE REMAINDER
OF THE FORECAST PERIOD. MODERATE TO LOCALLY FRESH TRADE WINDS WILL
PERSIST THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS HIGH PRESSURE PERSISTS NORTH OF THE
STATE. TRADES MAY DECREASE SLIGHTLY EARLY NEXT WEEK AS THE HIGH
MOVES OFF TO THE NORTHEAST.

TROPICAL STORM JOVA...UPGRADED FROM TROPICAL DEPRESSION TEN E...IS
LOCATED ABOUT 1750 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF HILO. THE OFFICIAL
FORECAST...ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IN MIAMI...HAS
JOVA STRENGTHENING INTO A MINIMAL HURRICANE AND REACHING A POINT 600
MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF HILO SATURDAY AFTERNOON. GIVEN THE
UNCERTAINTY INVOLVED IN TRACK FORECASTING AT DAY FIVE...WE WILL HOLD
OFF MAKING ANY CHANGES IN THE LOCAL FORECAST AT THIS TIME AND WILL
MAINTAIN A TRADE WIND FORECAST. THIS SYSTEM WILL BE CLOSELY
MONITORED AS IT APPROACHES THE REGION. THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE
CENTER WILL ASSUME FORECAST RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOVA WHEN IT CROSSES
140W ON SATURDAY.

.MARINE...SURF ALONG SOUTH FACING SHORES WILL REMAIN ELEVATED AT THE
15 FOOT WARNING LEVEL INTO THURSDAY. CIVIL DEFENSE REPORTED MINOR
INCIDENTS OF SURF WASHING ONTO ROADS NEAR LAWAI BEACH ON KAUAI AND
IN NANAKULI ON OAHU...AS WELL AS WATER SPLASHING OVER THE SEA WALL
AT ALII DRIVE IN KAILUA KONA. SURF IS EXPECTED TO SUBSIDE BELOW THE
WARNING LEVEL ON THURSDAY...YET REMAIN ABOVE THE ADVISORY LEVEL OF
8 FEET INTO EARLY SATURDAY.
