A brush fire that scorched 200 acres between Maalaea and McGregor Point on the Valley Island of Maui halted traffic for several hours along Honoapiilani Highway. Smoke from the fire caused much of the problem. Four separate fires along the route merged into one large blaze that took fire fighters many hours to contain and control. County officials believed that the initial fires were intentionally set. There were no reports of serious property damage or injuries.
