HAWAIIAN ISLANDS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI
1000 AM HST SAT FEB 12 2005

.SYNOPSIS...
A SHEAR LINE OVER THE BIG ISLAND IS MOVING SLOWLY TOWARD THE
SOUTHEAST...BUT CLOUDS AND SHOWERS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WEATHER
FEATURE WILL LIKELY LINGER OVER THE ISLANDS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDING IN NORTH OF THE STATE WILL GIVE THE ISLANDS
TYPICAL TRADE WIND WEATHER FOR THE COMING WEEK. SHOWERS IF ANY WILL
MOST LIKELY BE CONFINED TO WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
ZONES HAVE BEEN UPDATED TO LOWER WINDS ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA AS
WELL AS REMOVE MENTION OF HEAVY SHOWERS OVER WINDWARD AND MAUKA
LOCATIONS ON MAUI AND THE BIG ISLAND.

A SHEAR LINE IS DISSIPATING IN THE VICINITY OF THE BIG ISLAND BUT
CLOUDS AND SHOWERS LINGER ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATE. THE MOST LIKELY
PLACES FOR SHOWERS TO OCCUR WILL BE OVER WINDWARD AND MAUKA
SECTIONS. MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHEAR LINE WILL LIKELY KEEP
SCATTERED SHOWERS AROUND THROUGH TONIGHT WITH LESS ACTIVITY EXPECTED
ON SUNDAY. A BAND OF HIGHER CLOUDS ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH CONTINUE MOVING OVER MOST OF THE STATE BUT THE BACK EDGE IS
NOW OVER THE ISLAND OF KAUAI. VERY LIGHT SHOWERS MAY FALL FROM THESE
CLOUDS BUT THEY SHOULD BE RATHER ISOLATED AND BRIEF. LEEWARD
SECTIONS OF KAUAI AND POSSIBILITY OAHU MAY SEE SOME SUNSHINE THIS
AFTERNOON AS THE HIGH CLOUDS CONTINUE MOVING EASTWARD. THE HIGH
CLOUDS SHOULD BE MOSTLY GONE BY TOMORROW SO MORE SUNSHINE IS
EXPECTED OVER MANY AREAS BY THEN ESPECIALLY LEEWARD LOCATIONS.

SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE NOT SEEN IN A WHILE IS A WEEKS WORTH OF TRADE
WIND WEATHER. BY TOMORROW AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL RESIDE NORTH
OF THE STATE GIVING US LIGHT TO MODERATE TRADE WINDS ACROSS THE
AREA. THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS WILL BE THE USUAL PLACES THAT SEE LOCAL
LAND AND SEA BREEZE CONDITIONS MAINLY OVER PORTIONS OF THE BIG
ISLAND. SHOWER ACTIVITY WILL BE RATHER LIMITED WITH MOST OF THEM
OCCURRING OVER WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS. ANY SHOWERS THAT DO OCCUR
ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT AND BRIEF.

THE SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY WILL MOST LIKELY BE DROPPED WITH THE NOON
PACKAGE.
