A strong and persistent trade-wind disturbance brought heavy rain to Pohnpei, totaling 8.81 inches at the airport in the 24 hours ending at 1600 SST on April 30th. There was one indirect fatality when a man in his early 40s was killed by a falling tree during the heavy rain. Since winds were light during the event, the tree must have fallen as a result of loose soil conditions and/or heavy rain loading.

STATE AND KOSRAE STATE IS PRODUCING NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS IN AN AREA BETWEEN 4N TO 8N AND 155E TO 163E. THIS IS
PRIMARILY ASSOCIATED WITH A CIRCULATION NEAR 4N155E AND THE
TROUGH AXIS THAT EXTENDS SOUTHEASTWARD TO EQ162E.

ANOTHER AREA OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS EXISTS
BETWEEN 4N130E NORTHEAST TO 9N136E AND 8N145E...THEN SOUTH TO 4N145E
AND WEST TO 4N130E AND INCLUDES PORTIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF PALAU
AND YAP STATE. THIS AREA IS ASSOCIATED WITH WEAK CIRCULATION NEAR
3N133E AND THE EQUATORIAL TROUGH EXTENDING EASTWARD TO NEAR 4N145E.

A WEAK SHEAR-LINE EXTENDS FROM 25N180E SOUTHWESTWARD THROUGH 23N165E
TO 22N145E. WIDESPREAD LOW CLOUDS AND LIGHT RAIN EXTEND UP TO 120
MILES NORTH OF THE SHEAR-LINE.

AN UPPER-LEVEL MID-LATITUDE FEATURE HAS MOVED PARTIALLY INTO OUR
AREA SOUTH OF 25N BETWEEN 145E AND 160E AND NORTH OF 23N. SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND MIDDLE AND HIGH CLOUDS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM.

1 MILE IN HEAVY RAIN. 2.26 INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN AT THE KOLONIA
WEATHER STATION IN THE PAST 6 HOURS. SINCE 8 PM YESTERDAY
EVENING...7.82 INCHES OF RAIN HAS BEEN RECORDED AT WSO POHNPEI.

THE HEAVY RAIN SHOULD DISSIPATE EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...AS SATELLITE
IMAGERY INDICATES A WEAKENING TREND.

THE HEAVY RAINS HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED RIVER FLOW. RESIDENTS
LIVING AROUND RIVERS...ESPECIALLY THE SMALLER RIVERS NEAR THE
CENTRAL MOUNTAINS...SHOULD BE PREPARED TO MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. DO
NOT TRY TO CROSS AREAS THAT ARE FLOODED OR WHERE WATER IS IN MOTION.

WITH NEARLY 8 INCHES OF RAIN IN THE PAST 12 HOURS...MUDSLIDES ARE
POSSIBLE.
