AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF
925 AM MST FRI MAY 27 2005

.SYNOPSIS...WEAKENING HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST ALONG
WITH A SERIES OF APPROACHING PACIFIC LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS WILL ALLOW
MOIST SOUTHERLY FLOW TO DEVELOP THROUGH LATE MONDAY. THIS WILL BRING
A COOLING TREND AND AN INCREASING CHANCE FOR SHOWERS. BY TUESDAY
NIGHT...WEAK HIGH PRESSURE RIDGING LOOKS TO TAKE PLACE ALLOWING FOR
WARMING AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AND A RETURN TO DRY WEATHER FOR MOST
OF THE NORTHLAND.
&&

.DISCUSSION...A MOIST OUTFLOW BOUNDARY IS CONTINUING ACROSS THE
STATE FROM THE SOUTH AND EAST THIS MORNING. SURFACE DEWPOINTS HAVE
RISEN AT MANY STATIONS ACROSS NORTHERN ARIZONA WITH SOME
LOCATIONS...INCLUDING THE COMMUNITY OF SHOW LOW...ALREADY BREAKING
INTO THE 40S. GFS KEEPS FORECAST MOSTLY DRY TODAY...BUT WITH THIS
ADDED INFLUX OF LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE FEEL THAT THE CURRENT FORECAST OF
WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE ON TRACK.
CURRENT SYNOPTIC SETUP WITH WEAK LOW NEAR BAJA COAST WILL ALSO ADD
FAVORABLE SOUTHERLY MOISTURE FETCH INTO SATURDAY. CONVECTION SHOULD
INITIATE ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF MOGOLLON RIM AND WHITE
MOUNTAINS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE HOURS WITH THE LAST NAM RUN KEEPING
NEGATIVE LIFTED INDEX VALUES ACROSS THE MOGOLLON RIM AND SOUTH THIS
AFTERNOON.

GFS SUGGESTS THAT AN ADDITIONAL PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL DIP FROM
THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND ACROSS THE STATE AROUND A MONDAY-TUESDAY
TIME FRAME. THIS WOULD PROLONG THE CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION THROUGH
AT LEAST LATE TUESDAY AND ADD SOME POTENTIAL FOR SOME RATHER BREEZY
DAYS ON MONDAY AND EARLY TUESDAY. FORECAST THEN APPEARS TO RETURN TO
MODERATE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGING FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 7-DAY
FORECAST PERIOD WITH WARMING AFTERNOON TEMPS AND DAILY AFTERNOON
CONVECTION TAKING ANOTHER SABBATICAL. WILL RE-EVALUATE EXTENDED
FORECAST WITH AFTERNOON PACKAGE BUT CURRENT FORECAST IS IN LINE WITH
UPDATES ANTICIPATED AT THIS TIME.
