Thunderstorms developed along a cold front that crossed the area during the evening hours. As the activity reached the southern tier and lost the stabilizing effect of the Great Lakes, the storms intensified. In Clymer, the thunderstorm winds brought down trees and wires. Several electric poles were snapped off.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY 220 PM EDT MON APR 19 2004 A MOISTURE STARVED COLD FRONT CROSSING SOUTHERN ONTARIO WILL MAKE ITS WAY ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW YORK THIS EVENING. WHILE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME SPRINKLES AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...VERY LITTLE IS SEEN UPSTREAM ALONG THE FRONT ITSELF. WILL BE CONSERVATIVE THOUGH AND USE LOW CHC POPS THIS EVENING TO COVER THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY -SHRA/-TSRA AS OMEGA FIELDS ARE STILL BEING ADVERTISED AS BEING FAIRLY IMPRESSIVE. THIS IS PROBABLY DUE IN PART TO THE LIFT SUPPLIED BY RR QUAD ENTRANCE REGION OF H25 100 KT JET. VIS SAT LOOP ALSO SHOWS A BROKEN LINE TRYING TO FORM IN THE VCNTY OF THE FRONT. THE DECISION IS ALSO SUPPORTED BY LATEST RUC PCPN FIELD. RIDGING FROM THE NORTHERN PLAINS WILL THEN SET IN FOR LATER TONIGHT AND TUESDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN CLEARING SKIES AND RAPIDLY DIMINISHING WINDS WITH TEMPS RETURNING TO MORE SEASONABLE LEVELS. A FAIRLY DEEP STORM SYSTEM WILL THEN LIFT OUT OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS TUESDAY NIGHT AND CROSS THE UPPER GREAT LAKES. WARM ADVECTION AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE WILL RESULT IN INCREASING CLOUDS FOR THE REGION TUESDAY NIGHT WITH AN INCREASING CHANCE FOR -SHRA AND -TSRA. THE GREATEST CHANCE FOR THE PCPN WILL BE FOUND FROM THE GENESEE VALLEY WEST TO LAKE ERIE.
