.SHORT TERM...FOR THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA INTERIOR...UPPER LOW
APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST HAS BROUGHT A SOMEWHAT DRIER
SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT ACROSS THE DISTRICT. A FEW SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS DID DEVELOP IN OUR SIERRA ZONES NEAR THE CREST THIS
AFTERNOON HOWEVER...MAINLY FROM SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK NORTHWARD.
BUILDUPS SEEMED TO BE CONFINED TO AREAS WHERE RESIDUAL SNOW COVER
WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE EXTRA AVAILABLE MOISTURE. THE ACTIVITY DIED
OFF AROUND SUNSET. WITH SIMILAR CONDITIONS EXPECTED SATURDAY WE
MAY SEE SOME AFTERNOON CONVECTION ON OUR SIDE OF THE MOUNTAINS
AGAIN. SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENTS HAVE BEEN TIGHTENING UP DURING
THE EVENING...PRODUCING MODERATE GUSTY BREEZES ACROSS THE
DISTRICT...ESPECIALLY THE KERN MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS. THE GRADIENT
SHOULD BEGIN TO RELAX OVERNIGHT WITH A DECREASING TREND IN THE WINDS
EXPECTED. CURRENT TEMPERATURES ARE WITHIN A DEGREE OR TWO OF THIS
TIME LAST NIGHT AND OVERNIGHT LOWS SHOULD FOLLOW THIS TREND. NO
UPDATE IS PLANNED FOR TONIGHTS FORECAST.
.LONG TERM...PREVIOUS DISCUSSION FOR MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...NO REAL
CHANGES PLANNED FOR THE EXTENDED PORTION AS MEDIUM RANGE SOLUTIONS
QUITE CONSISTENT IN RETAINING SOME WEAKNESS IN UPPER HEIGHTS OVER
THE DISTRICT THROUGH THE PERIOD. GFS INDICATES LOWEST H5 HEIGHTS
WEDNESDAY MORNING...WITH SOME RECOVERY THEREAFTER AS THE TROUGH
OVERHEAD FILLS SLIGHTLY. LITTLE CHANGE IN H85 TEMPERATURES IS
NOTED...SO SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL UNDERGO LITTLE DAY TO DAY
CHANGE THROUGH THE PERIOD AND GENERALLY REMAIN A FEW DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. SOUTHERLY FLOW ALOFT OCCASIONALLY BACKS SOUTHEASTERLY...AND
CURRENT DEPICTION OF AFTERNOON AND EVENING LOW END POPS LIMITED TO
THE SIERRA NEVADA CREST LOOKS REASONABLE GIVEN PROJECTED MID LEVEL
MOISTURE.

The Meadow Fire was lightning ignited in Yosemite National Park. There were no structures lost nor injuries. The cost to fight the fire was $2.0M with a total acreage consumed of 5060 acres by the 31st of July. The fire was allowed to burn until extinguished by winter precipitation to accomplish resource management objectives.
